We're currently recruiting for an experienced Employee Relations Manager to join a busy HR function on an initial 3-month contract based in Portsmouth.

This role will suit a seasoned ER professional with strong technical expertise and the ability to lead on complex and high-risk employee relations matters, whilst partnering with senior stakeholders to drive best practice across the organisation.

The Role: As Employee Relations Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing a broad range of employee relations activity, providing expert guidance on complex casework, supporting organisational change, and ensuring compliance with employment legislation and internal policies. You will play a key role in driving consistency, mitigating risk, and improving management capability across the business.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and managing complex employee relations casework including disciplinaries, grievances, capability, absence management, restructures and organisational change
  • Providing expert ER advice to managers and senior leaders on employment law, policy and risk
  • Supporting and advising on investigations, hearings, and appeals
  • Managing high-risk and sensitive employee relations issues, including escalation points
  • Coaching and developing managers to build confidence and capability in ER processes
  • Reviewing and improving ER policies, procedures and frameworks
  • Identifying ER trends and providing insight to support business decision-making
  • Supporting wider HR and change programmes as required

About You:

  • Proven experience operating at Employee Relations Manager or Senior HR Manager level
  • Significant experience managing complex ER casework end-to-end
  • Strong working knowledge of UK employment law and employee relations best practice
  • Experience advising and influencing senior stakeholders
  • Strong risk management and decision-making capability
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, complex environment with competing priorities
  • Previous public sector experience would be highly desirable
  • CIPD qualification (or equivalent) desirable
  • Available to work on-site in Portsmouth, 5 days per week
