I am working with my client a wonderful charity to hire an experienced ER & Change Manager to join their team as they prepare to consult on two complex restructures. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in managing employee relations (ER) and change management processes, with the ability to hit the ground running and manage both the day-to-day ER challenges and the more complex restructure work.
The ER & Change Manager will report directly to the Director of People and will be required to operate autonomously with minimal day-to-day oversight. There is an existing ER & Engagement Manager and Senior People Officer within the team, but we need additional capacity to ensure we have sufficient resilience to manage the increased workload during this period.
This is a unique opportunity to contribute significantly to the development of a robust ER and change management strategy within a fast-paced, evolving environment.
Key Responsibilities:
-
Expert Advice: Provide expert guidance on ER issues, including complex change management processes, through effective communication and inclusive practices to employees, line managers, and senior leaders.
-
Complex Cases & Change Management: Lead on complex ER cases and change management processes, establishing strong, credible relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
-
Compliance & Risk Mitigation: Ensure compliance with UK employment law and People policies, improving employee experience and mitigating organizational risk.
-
Fair Decision-Making: Ensure management decisions are consistent with employment legislation, policies, and procedures.
-
Independent ER Management: Manage ER issues independently at all stages, making informed, consistent, and effective decisions, particularly in situations that are not currently covered by existing policies.
-
Culture Development: Promote a resolution-focused ER culture that drives positive business outcomes, while addressing management biases and fostering inclusivity.
-
Flexibility & Support: The role requires flexibility, and the post-holder will be expected to support other duties as required, contributing to team efforts beyond the scope of this description.
The person:
Essential:
- Educated to degree level or equivalent work experience
- CIPD Level 7 qualification or equivalent experience at this level
- Up-to-date knowledge of employment law, with a solid track record of applying and interpreting legislation in complex situations
- Expert knowledge in handling ER, change management, and redundancy cases
- Confidence to challenge decisions that are not in line with policy or best practice
- Strong communication skills, able to simplify complex issues and facilitate resolution
- Experience in coaching managers and building people management capabilities
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Teams, Outlook, Excel, Word, and OneDrive
- Ability to work effectively within tight and conflicting timeframes
- Collaborative team player, sharing knowledge and co-creating solutions
- Resilience and a commitment to self-care
Desirable:
- Previous experience in a charity or not-for-profit organization
- Experience in managing employee relations during periods of organizational change
- Willingness to travel throughout the UK and occasionally abroad as required
