Salary: Scale 6 Points 18 – 20 £36,345 - £37,437 per annum pro rata (Actual salary payable £32,113 - £33,078 per annum)

We are seeking to appoint a Literacy/EAL Coordinator and School Librarian for a period of one year as maternity cover. The role is to lead, manage and work collaboratively with mainstream teachers and support staff to plan and deliver effective literacy and English language support to English as additional language (EAL) students. You will lead on and deliver appropriate interventions for EAL students as well as liaise with teaching and support staff to ensure the progress of students with significantly low literacy levels.

As School Librarian, you will also be responsible for developing and promoting a high quality, professional library service for all students and staff, and to aid teaching and learning and promote reading for pleasure. At Oaklands School, we are committed to developing the literacy skills of all our students. Literacy skills are central to the development of learning, personal and social development and to lifelong learning.

You will act as an integral part of the school staff team, and as such make a contribution to the overall aims of the school, working within agreed policies and procedures. You will ensure the school libraries are in an orderly, safe, stimulating and welcoming environment for all students.

The post holder is required to have a high level of literacy skills and must be committed to contributing to improving the achievement and attainment of our students. The successful candidate must also have excellent organisational skills and the flexibility and ability to work as part of a team. The ideal candidate will have knowledge and some experience of working in a Library within an educational establishment or an Information Centre, as well as familiar in using library management systems/packages and ICT software.
