The Opportunity:

Role Overview:

The Operations Manager will be responsible for the efficient and effective management of the Warehouse Team within the Open Food Department. You will ensure the team consistently delivers the high level of service required by Oakland partners, works towards departmental KPIs, and adheres to all company policies and procedures. This role is crucial in driving continuous improvement and fostering a safe, productive, and compliant working environment.

Key Responsibilities will include:

  • Leading, motivating, and managing the performance of the Warehouse Team to exceed key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Understanding, communicating, and driving departmental KPIs, including managing sales losses, labour costs, and agency usage, and taking proactive action on any overspends.
  • Leading the consistent application of the Company People Management Process, including daily/weekly team briefings, performance reviews, and supporting recruitment and development initiatives.
  • Maintaining and improving a safe working environment, ensuring full compliance with Health and Safety standards, COSHH, HACCP, and MHE compliance.
  • Identifying and implementing process improvements to drive efficiency and service excellence.
  • Working cross-functionally with Customer Services, Quality Assurance, and Business Support Managers to continuously enhance service delivery.

Working Hours:Sunday to Thursday, 08:00 – 17:00, with flexibility required to meet operational demands.

Salary: £35,000 per annum.

Who We Are Looking For:We are seeking a candidate with a proven track record in warehouse management, strong leadership skills, and a solid understanding of health and safety and food safety requirements. The ideal candidate will be solution-focused, proactive, and dedicated to meeting and exceeding customer expectations. You should possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a strong commercial awareness, and a keen motivation to elevate operational standards. Experience in a multi-temperature environment and with warehouse management systems is highly desirable.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Proven track record at understanding and managing warehouse & picking/loading performance to KPIs.
  • Experience in people management processes (disciplinary, grievance, appraisal, performance management).
  • Experience managing a sizeable operation at a Middle or Senior Management level.
  • Fully conversant with warehouse processes: Goods In, Goods Out, Picking, and Packing.
  • Sound knowledge of Health and Safety requirements, including HACCP and CCP’s.
  • PC Literate (MS packages including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Possession of a Food Safety Level 2 qualification is essential.
  • A Level 5 qualification in Operations Management is ideal.
