We are looking to recruit a full time Veterinary Care Assistant to join our friendly team at Goosnargh, Preston.

Job role:

  • Assisting veterinary surgeons and nurses with clinical procedures and patient handling and restraint.
  • Maintaining a clean and hygienic environment throughout the surgery including ward, theatre and prep rooms and the sterilisation and maintenance of surgical equipment.
  • Ensuring all areas are adequately stocked with supplies and consumables.
  • Assisting the veterinary nurses with inpatient care including preparing patients for surgery and the feeding, walking and cleaning of hospitalised animals.
  • Helping the veterinary surgeons and nurses with infection control.
  • Assisting with inpatient procedures such as bandage changes, X-rays, physiotherapy, blood sampling and catheter placement.
  • Conducting laboratory diagnostics.
  • Carrying out daily/weekly and monthly duties as per checklists, including end of day shutdown checklists.
  • Accepting instructions from veterinary surgeons, nurses and members of the management team, as well as working using your own initiative.
  • Working on reception – answering the phone, booking appointments and welcoming clients.
  • Carrying out all other reasonable duties, as requested.

Who are we looking for?

The ideal candidate would be able to offer excellent client care and communication, deliver high standards of patient care, be an active team player, have excellent organisational skills and bedside manner. This role would be ideal for a newly qualified or experienced VCA looking for a new role, although previous experience or qualifications are not compulsory, as we can provide full training to the right candidate.

The role is a maternity cover, full time (39 hours) position between 8am – 7pm and you will be expected to participate in a 1:12 (approx.) weekend rota.
