Our Music Department sits at the heart of school life, and this role sits at the heart of the department. The Music Department Administrator provides the administrative backbone for a large and accomplished department, working closely with the Director of Music to ensure day‑to‑day operations run efficiently and to a high standard. The position is the first point of contact for parents, pupils and visiting staff and carries real responsibility for the department’s impression.
Responsibilities
- Co‑ordinating visiting music staff
- Managing room and lesson logistics
- Liaising with colleagues across catering, estates and IT for event preparation
- Supporting scholarship and audition arrangements
- Overseeing departmental finances and records
- Ensuring smooth operation of concerts, recitals and other events
- Attending evening and occasional weekend events as required
Qualifications and Skills
- Highly organised with the ability to manage a demanding and varied workload with composure
- Personable and diplomatic, with strong relationship‑building skills across parents, pupils and staff
- Capable of using sound judgement and initiative when prioritising competing demands
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel, with experience of managing budgets, records and correspondence
- Genuinely flexible regarding working hours, recognising the department’s concert and events programme
- Professional, positive and resilient, with a strong sense of discretion and attention to detail
- Appreciation of music welcomed, though the focus is on bringing order, care and good judgement to a busy and high‑profile department

Salary: FTE £28,000 (Actual salary £23,153.85, 0.82692FTE) 43 weeks per year, comprising term time plus an additional 6 weeks. These additional weeks are not restricted to school holidays and may involve evening concerts or weekend duties during term time.
