Oakgrove School is looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Learning Advisor to join our support team in September 2026. This is an exciting opportunity to support our secondary students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and help them access learning, achieve their potential, and thrive in a supportive school environment. Working under the guidance of teaching staff, you will provide tailored support to individuals and small groups, both in and out of the classroom, including occasional online sessions and exam support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support students with SEN in accessing the curriculum
  • Work with individuals and small groups on targeted learning programmes
  • Provide feedback on student progress and achievement
  • Assist with exam support in line with regulations
  • Support students in lessons, at break/lunch times, and during extracurricular activities
  • Prepare and maintain learning resources and a positive learning environment
  • Liaise with teaching staff and relevant professionals
  • Complete administrative and clerical tasks
  • Attend meetings, training, and professional development activities

What We’re Looking For

Essential

  • GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths
  • Experience of working with young people, ideally with SEN
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • A patient, supportive, and flexible approach
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Commitment to inclusion, equality, and safeguarding

Desirable

  • Teaching Assistant qualification or SEN training
  • Experience in a school environment (particularly secondary)
  • Knowledge of specific needs (e.g. autism, ADHD, dyslexia)
  • Experience supporting exams or online learning
