Responsibilities Include
- Carry a caseload of children and youth who would benefit from using augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) tools/devices under the supervision of a Speech Language Pathologist.
- Conduct home, community and in-clinic program consultation visits.
- Provide coaching to parents and members of the child and family team in order to support the use of AAC tools and strategies within everyday routines/environments.
- Provide training opportunities for parents, professionals, community partners, etc. to continue to build local AAC capacity.
- Supporting children and their families with special needs.
- Complete preparation work - including boardmaker and other AAC materials/tools.
- Document clinical notes within CTN’s shared client record.
- Attend scheduled ACCS prescription reviews with the supervising Speech Language Pathologist (twice monthly), CTN AAC professional development days (twice yearly), clinical team meetings, and provincial AAC rounds (twice yearly).
- Take an active role in performing and maintaining professional practice standards, guidelines and activities.
- Travel throughout York Region required.
Position Qualifications
- Communicative Disorders Assistant Diploma.
- Previous experience dealing with paediatric populations would be a definite asset.
- Experience working with children with special needs, including children who use Augmentative and Alternative Communication is an asset.
- Ability to offer services in more than one language is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within the team.
- Excellent interpersonal, organisational and communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle required.
- Demonstrated good attendance record with the ability to maintain this same standard.
- Demonstrates a commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others (staff, patients, families, etc.) by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with hospital related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices and completing relevant mandatory education as required.
