OAK Multi Academy Trust is seeking a practical, persistent and compassionate Attendance and Engagement Officer to work across our five schools. This is an operational, on-the-ground role for someone who can build trust with families, act promptly when pupils are absent and help schools turn good attendance systems into positive daily action. A core part of the role is responding to absence in real time. You will work with school colleagues to contact parents and carers promptly, understand what is preventing attendance and, where appropriate, help children come into school. Crucially, you will reinforce the message that missing the morning need not mean losing the whole day, renewing contact and supporting a return for the afternoon session wherever this is appropriate. Alongside this daily work, you will provide targeted casework for pupils with persistent or severe absence, undertake home visits, support reintegration and attendance plans, and help families access the right support. You will work under OAK's strategic leadership, contributing practical insight from your casework and helping schools develop consistent, positive and inclusive approaches. We are looking for someone who
- has successful experience of working directly with children, young people and families, particularly where engagement or attendance is difficult
- can combine warmth and empathy with professional curiosity, appropriate challenge and determined follow-through
- understands that attendance problems can reflect SEND, anxiety, disadvantage, safeguarding concerns or other barriers-and avoids a one-size-fits-all response
- can manage a varied caseload, use attendance information intelligently and keep accurate, timely records
- works confidently across schools and with external agencies while respecting school leaders' accountability
- is able to travel between OAK schools and undertake home visits. Full-time applications are preferred; however, part-time and job share applications will be considered. Whilst this is a fixed-term position, there may be the opportunity for the contract to be extended or become permanent in the future
