Oak Furnitureland is a beloved British furniture retailer with a passion for helping people create their dream homes. We are committed to providing exceptional quality and stylish furniture at accessible prices. As we continue to grow and evolve, we're looking for an experienced Lead Digital Product Manager to lead our Digital Product team and set the direction for our online experience.
This is a hybrid role with in-person working from our Swindon Head Office on a Tuesday & Thursday.
ROLE PURPOSE
The Digital Product Manager is accountable for the success of Oak Furnitureland's website and digital channels, and for the outcomes they deliver. The Digital Product Owner owns the product vision, strategy, roadmap, backlog and delivery sequencing, and you will make sure these are aligned to the company's strategy, commercial targets and omnichannel ambitions, and deliver for our customers.
You will lead the Digital Product team, made up of the Digital Product Owner, UX Designer and Digital Business Analyst. Through them, you will have oversight of the digital product, customer journeys, research and design, while the team members own the detail of their areas.
Our digital journeys don't only serve our ecommerce channel. They also play an important part in our showroom and telesales experience, so you will make sure the digital product supports every channel our customers use. You will own the outcome targets for our digital channels, align the digital strategy with our commercial, trading and marketing plans, and plan the development and product resources needed to deliver it. You will represent digital product at senior and executive level in partnership with the Head of IT Transformation.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Hold overall accountability for the success of the digital product, making sure the product vision, strategy and roadmap owned by the Digital Product Owner align with the company's strategy and deliver the agreed outcomes.
- Own the outcomes the digital product roadmap must deliver, and agree with the Digital Product Owner the priorities and business context the roadmap needs to reflect.
- Work with the Digital Product Owner to agree which customer and business problems are most worth solving, drawing on the discovery and research led by the Digital Business Analyst and UX Designer.
- Ensure product decisions are grounded in continuous discovery, combining customer research, behavioural insight, analytics and commercial evidence.
- Make sure digital journeys support the whole omnichannel experience, including our showrooms and telesales, serving every channel our customers use.
- Communicate the direction of the digital product to the wider business, alongside the Digital Product Owner.
Outcomes & Performance
- Own the outcome targets for the digital product, including conversion, average order value and customer experience, and contribute to digital revenue and agreed measures of commercial value.
- Use product analytics, customer insight and Management Information to track performance, identify opportunities and measure product outcomes.
- Report digital performance to the Head of IT Transformation and wider stakeholders.
- Ensure significant product changes have clear success measures and are reviewed after launch, using results and customer insight to inform future product decisions.
Commercial Alignment
- Work with the Commercial, Ecommerce and Marketing teams to understand commercial priorities and targets, and make sure the digital strategy supports them.
- Align the digital strategy with the trading calendar, promotions, product launches and peak trading periods.
- Understand the commercial value of digital initiatives and support the business cases behind them.
- Work with the CRM and Marketing teams on personalisation, customer accounts and the use of customer data to improve digital experiences.
Development & Resource Planning
- Work strategically with the Head of Development to review the size of the backlog, delivery capacity and future resource needs across both the development and product teams.
- Agree priorities with the Digital Product Owner based on strategy, capacity and business need, with the Product Owner managing sprint-level planning.
- Identify and make the case for the resources needed to deliver the digital strategy.
Platform & Technology
- Shape the future direction of the ecommerce platform and digital capability, working with the Head of Technology on technical architecture and the Head of IT Transformation on the eCommerce digital modernisation programme.
- Own the digital product tools and their contracts, such as analytics, behavioural insight and experimentation platforms.
- Keep abreast of emerging digital commerce capabilities and customer behaviours, identifying opportunities that could materially improve customer experience or commercial performance.
- Own the experimentation strategy, objectives and success measures for the digital product.
- Provide oversight of the testing programme, with the Digital Product Owner responsible for prioritising, coordinating and deciding on individual experiments within the agreed strategy.
Launch & Change Communication
- Make sure digital releases and changes are communicated clearly to the business, and that stakeholders are prepared for them.
- Line manage the Digital Product Owner, UX Designer and Digital Business Analyst, holding regular 1:1s and Partnering for Performance (P4P) reviews, and setting clear objectives.
- Mentor and develop the team, building skills and capacity and planning for succession.
- Develop the maturity of the digital product function, embedding clear product principles, decision-making frameworks and outcome-led ways of working.
- Provide oversight of the team's work, including the roadmap, customer journeys, research and designs.
Stakeholder Management
- Represent digital product at senior and executive level, in partnership with the Head of IT Transformation.
- Build strong relationships across Marketing, Ecommerce, Commercial, CRM, Content, Creative, showrooms, telesales, IT and development.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- Proven experience in a senior digital product role within UK ecommerce or omnichannel retail.
- A track record of guiding a digital product vision and strategy, and aligning it with wider business strategy.
- Experience leading and developing a product team, including product owners, UX designers and analysts.
- Strong understanding of end-to-end ecommerce journeys, from product discovery and consideration through basket, checkout, fulfilment and post-purchase, and the measures that drive performance, such as conversion, average order value and customer experience.
- Understanding of how digital journeys support other channels, such as showrooms, stores and telesales.
- Strong commercial awareness, including working with trading and marketing teams around promotions, launches and peak trading.
- Experience setting an experimentation strategy and using data and insight to make decisions.
- Experience working with development teams to plan capacity, resources and priorities in an Agile environment.
- Experience shaping ecommerce platform and technology direction alongside technology leaders.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to represent digital product at senior and executive level.
- Experience in a high-consideration retail sector, such as furniture, homeware or big-ticket items.
- Experience of personalisation and using customer data to improve digital experiences.
- Experience of ecommerce platform modernisation or replatforming programmes.
- Experience managing digital tools, suppliers and their contracts.
PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES
- Strategic and practical, able to connect the digital product with the wider business and help the team turn ambition into achievable outcomes.
- Customer-focused, with a genuine understanding of how customers shop across channels.
- Commercially minded, focusing on changes that make a real difference to customers and the business.
- An inspiring and supportive leader, who develops people and builds a strong team culture.

- A clear and confident communicator, able to explain strategy simply to technical and non-technical audiences.
