Nysama is an early-stage fashion brand operating across two entities: Nysama UK (our operating entity — handling stock, design, marketing, and salaries) and Nysama USA (our sales entity — fulfilling Shopify orders to US, UK, and worldwide customers). We're looking for a fractional accountant to take ownership of the books across both entities on an ongoing, part-time basis.
About the role
This is a remote, fractional engagement — a few hours per week, scaling with the business. You'll work directly with the founder and own the full finance function across both companies. Sales volume is modest right now, so the role is less about transaction volume and more about getting the structure right: clean intercompany accounting, proper transfer pricing, accurate stock and COGS, and a monthly management accounts pack that actually helps us make decisions.
What you'll own
- Across both entities:
- Bookkeeping and bank reconciliations in Xero (UK + US subscriptions)
- Shopify and Link My Books reconciliation, ensuring COGS is recorded correctly per sale
- PayPal reconciliation
- Stock reconciliation, landed cost release to P&L based on stock movements, and monthly adjustments for giveaways/PR
- Monthly COGS journals for returns
- Fixed asset reconciliation and depreciation
- Prepayments
- Monthly management accounts pack with commentary, key highlights, and performance insights
- UK-specific:
- PAYE and payroll reconciliation
- VAT threshold monitoring and returns
- UK Corporation Tax coordination
- Customs duties and import VAT on inbound stock
- US-specific:
- US sales tax nexus monitoring and filings (state-by-state)
- US federal and state income tax coordination (1120 and state returns)
- Cross-entity:
- Intercompany invoicing for stock sold from UK to US, and transfer pricing policy
- Monthly intercompany reconciliations
- FX revaluation on intercompany balances
- Optional: consolidated management view across both entities
What we're looking for
- Strong DTC / e-commerce accounting experience — you've worked with Shopify-based brands and understand the rhythm of inventory, returns, and platform fees
- Hands-on experience with Xero, Link My Books, and Shopify
- Comfortable working across US and UK entities. You don't need to be dual-qualified, but you should either have direct experience with both jurisdictions or have a trusted partner on the side you don't cover
- Familiarity with intercompany accounting and transfer pricing for small group structures
- Clear communicator who can translate the numbers into insights, not just deliver a P&L
- Comfortable in an early-stage environment where processes are still being built
Bonus
- Experience with fashion or apparel brands specifically
- Familiarity with US sales tax tools (TaxJar, Avalara)
- Experience working with founders preparing for angel investment
Engagement details
- Fully remote, work asynchronously across time zones
- Fractional / part-time, ongoing engagement
- Flexible on rate structure — monthly retainer or hourly, open to discussing
