Carriage Fitter Based in Pickering Β£24,088.68 per annum Full-time, Permanent
Do you have experience working in a time-served practical maintenance or workshop role? Are you interested in using your skills and experience to keep our heritage carriages running? You will work in a team overhauling, repairing, and maintaining heritage traction and rolling stock to Network Rail standards to enable NYMR to preserve its rail heritage and provide a first-class visitor experience. There will be the need to work some weekends and bank holidays in the main operating season.
Main Duties- Maintain a running fleet of heritage carriages, wagons, and bogies, capable of meeting the needs of the operating department by repairing and servicing steam heating systems, vacuum brake systems, 24-volt electrics and carriage framework.
- Carry out heavy overhauls, to Network Rail standards, on out of traffic heritage carriages, wagons, and bogies to return them to operational condition by overhauling steam heating systems, vacuum brake systems, 24-volt electrics and carriage framework.
- Conduct Fitness to Run exams at Pickering and Grosmont.
- Perform shunting operations if required.
- Work on other vehicles as required.
- Work some weekends and Bank Holidays when required.
- Experience in a practical maintenance or workshop role.
- Time served with a Level 2 in an engineering or electrical subject.
- UK Driving licence.
- Experience working as a fitter in the rail or heritage rail sector.
- Level 3 or above in an engineering or electrical subject.
