Ground Frame Operator Fire Control Lead Based in Grosmont, Whitby
Salary – £23,914.80 per annum, increasing in April.
Full‐time, 36.5 hours per week, Permanent.
We are seeking an experienced, hands‐on and safety‐conscious individual to lead our lineside fire patrol team. You will be responsible for coordinating fire patrol operations across our 18 miles of heritage railway, ensuring the protection of our lineside, visitors, staff and volunteers.
Responsibilities
- Lead the NYMR Firecon team, including reviewing standards and procedures for the management of Firecon in conjunction with the COO and Safety Team as a minimum.
- Ensure Firecon equipment is maintained and is serviceable.
- Lead the Firecon roster and ensure sufficient numbers of persons are trained to fulfil the role of Firecon as required.
- Support the Health and Safety Department with administrative tasks as required.
- Train for and attain operating competencies to provide greater resilience within the department. This may include as a minimum: Mobile Operating Manager, Ground Frame Operator, Pilotman.
- Work with the wider team to ensure the safe and efficient operation and delivery of the timetable.
- Contribute to training and management of competence of operations staff as required.
- Work in and share knowledge with a team of staff and volunteers.
- Mentor and support volunteers, apprentices and less experienced members of the department.
- Contribute to the daily management of the firecon roster.
- Form appropriate relationships at work and maintain professional boundaries.
- Comply with your individual responsibilities under Health and Safety and other relevant NYMR policies.
- Work with COO, Operating Assistant and Safety Team on development of the Department Standards Manual, including where regulatory changes are made.
Personal Specification
- Essential Leadership and team management experience
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to remain calm under pressure
- Physical fitness to patrol our railway lineside
- Experience in safety‐critical railway operations
- Full driving licence
- Desirable Experience in a heritage railway or industrial heritage environment
- Knowledge of steam locomotive fire risks
- First aid qualification
- Experience in competency management and training
