This is an excellent opportunity, working on a variety of projects whilst learning about Machine Tools and Casting Equipment, as well as gaining a full qualification and having a guaranteed full-time job as a Maintenance Engineer after 4 years.

Training course: Maintenance and operations engineering technician (level 3)

Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:30-16:30 with a daily 30-minute lunch break for the first year. Potentially moving to Alternating Double Day Shift in the second year (6am-2pm, 2pm-10pm).

Days per week: 37 hours 30 minutes.

Start date: Tuesday 1 September 2026.

Duration: 3 years.

Work: Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work: The Engineering and Maintenance Apprentice supports the Engineering Team in all electrical and mechanical works within the field of Cast Nylon manufacturing. The first year of the apprenticeship will allow the Apprentice to gain knowledge and experience across all areas of the business as they will participate in a rotation of various key departments within the organisation. The second year of the apprenticeship will then focus solely on Engineering and Maintenance and the development of the duties as listed below:

  • Learning and understanding the importance of Health and Safety within the workplace
  • Observing, learning and understanding a wide range of engineering skills and processes while under the instruction of skilled technical staff
  • To be able to demonstrate these skills and processes as the training period progresses by working independently or with a team, to undertake tasks as instructed and increasing overall contribution to the department
  • To develop the skills to manage a project from concept/design through to build and implementation into the business
  • To develop an understanding of the functional principles of the equipment/machinery within the business

Training: Apprenticeships include time away from working for specialist training. You’ll study to gain professional knowledge and skills.

Training provider: LEICESTER COLLEGE

Training course: Maintenance and operations engineering technician (level 3) Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard. You will attend Leicester College, Abbey Park Campus, one day per week.

Requirements: GCSE in English (grade C or 4 equivalent), maths (grade C or 4 equivalent). Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

Skills: Analytical skills, Logical, Initiative, Non-judgemental.
