The role reports to the UK GIS Lead and will be responsible for:
- Designing, architecting, and implementing Esri desktop, web, and mobile solutions by collaborating with business stakeholders, consultants, and infrastructure and security teams.
- Leading and delivering GIS projects with a deep understanding of the ArcGIS system and the ability to translate complex business needs into scalable, efficient technical solutions.
- Engaging with Design Authority groups and senior stakeholders (including CXOs) to present solutions and secure approvals.
- Staying up to date with the latest Esri products, updates, and industry trends.
- Proactively supporting Sales and Business Development teams to identify GIS opportunities and develop high‑quality, accurate technical proposals.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect enterprise GIS solutions using the full ArcGIS system.
- Design scalable, secure, and client‑aligned IT infrastructure and geospatial data architecture.
- Translate client business processes into spatial data models and functional GIS components.
- Develop and oversee end‑to‑end GIS data migration strategies from legacy systems to modern data architectures.
- Leverage tools such as FME, Python, and other migration platforms to manage complex ETL workflows.
- Ensure data quality, schema alignment, and performance optimisation during and after migration activities.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
- Lead technical workshops and design sessions with client IT and operational teams.
- Present architectural approaches and roadmaps aligned with client enterprise strategies.
- Collaborate with project managers to ensure scope, cost, and timelines remain aligned.
Solution Delivery
- Lead delivery teams in implementing geospatial technologies using COTS and custom configurations.
- Ensure alignment with design specifications and cross‑workstream dependencies such as data migration, security, and infrastructure.
- Collaborate with client and third‑party teams to manage dependencies and maintain solution integrity.
- Define integrations between GIS platforms and third‑party business systems.
- Provide infrastructure guidance for ArcGIS Enterprise deployments across cloud, hybrid, and on‑premises environments (Azure, AWS, VMware).
- Support DevOps practices including CI/CD, automation, and system monitoring.
Documentation & Governance
- Produce high‑quality design documentation, configuration guides, and migration plans.
- Establish and enforce standards for security, performance, and operational governance.
Technical Leadership
- Stay informed about Esri product roadmaps, industry trends, and emerging geospatial technologies; provide recommendations for adoption.
- Develop accelerators, reusable frameworks, and proprietary tools that help customers accelerate their geospatial and digital‑twin journeys.
- Represent nxzen at industry events, lead workshops, and support proactive initiatives for new opportunities.
- Support the GIS function leadership team in developing internal technical deployments and the technology strategy for the business.
3+ years’ experience as a Solution Architect specialising in GIS systems design and architecture. Expertise with the ArcGIS system, including ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, and ArcGIS Pro. Strong knowledge of data modelling, ETL tools (e.g., FME, Python), and versioned editing workflows. Experience integrating enterprise GIS with third‑party systems. Understanding of Agile, DevOps, or hybrid delivery methodologies. Excellent problem‑solving skills and the ability to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to diverse audiences. Self‑motivated, results‑oriented, and highly disciplined in managing time and priorities.
Desirable (but not essential) Skills & Experience
- Familiarity with integration patterns for utility systems (asset/work management, outage, customer services).
- Experience with the ArcGIS Utility Network, including migrations from legacy models.
- Prior consulting experience in water, gas, or electricity utility transformation programmes.
- Microsoft Azure or AWS cloud certifications.
- Experience with Infrastructure‑as‑Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, ARM, or similar.
- Experience with non‑Esri and open‑source geospatial technologies.
- Experience integrating GIS with OMS, WMS, SCADA, or ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Maximo).
