NXTGEN is recruiting a Senior Financial Accountant for an established and growing business based in Lowestoft. This Senior Financial Accountant opportunity would be an excellent first move from practice, while also appealing to industry-trained candidates with experience across financial reporting, controls and compliance. Working closely with the Finance Director, you’ll take ownership of the integrity of the organisation’s financial reporting and control environment. Rather than managing a team or running the transactional finance function, your focus will be on reviewing how finance operates, strengthening processes and ensuring the business maintains robust financial disciplines as it continues to develop. The role As the Senior Financial Accountant, you’ll act as a key technical resource within finance, combining detailed accounting work with broader exposure to governance, risk and process improvement. Your responsibilities will include: * Reviewing and strengthening financial controls across the business * Ensuring balance sheet reconciliations are accurate, complete and supported * Supporting the preparation of statutory accounts and year-end reporting * Acting as a key point of contact during the external audit process * Maintaining clear finance policies, procedures and control documentation * Reviewing accounting treatments and providing technical guidance * Supporting tax, VAT and wider financial compliance activity * Identifying weaknesses or inconsistencies within existing processes * Working with stakeholders to implement practical control improvements * Supporting the accuracy and integrity of monthly financial reporting * Improving the quality of financial information available to senior leadership * Contributing to finance systems, reporting and process improvement projects What are we looking for? The successful Senior Financial Accountant will have a strong grounding in financial reporting, audit, controls or technical accounting. You could be making your first move from accountancy practice or already working in industry within a financial accounting, reporting, compliance or controls-focused position. The business is open-minded on sector background. Experience working with manufacturing, FMCG or stock-based organisations would be useful, but broader experience will be considered where you can demonstrate strong technical knowledge and an ability to improve financial processes. This Senior Financial Accountant opportunity would suit someone who: * Is ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified, or has equivalent relevant experience * Has experience within accountancy practice, industry or a combination of both * Understands statutory reporting, audit and financial compliance * Recognises what a strong financial control environment looks like * Is confident reviewing balance sheets and investigating discrepancies * Can translate technical accounting requirements into practical actions * Enjoys improving processes and constructively challenging existing approaches * Communicates confidently with finance and non-finance stakeholders This role offers the chance to retain the technical variety associated with audit and financial reporting while gaining wider commercial context and genuine ownership. It could provide an excellent bridge into industry for a practice-trained accountant or a natural next step for someone already operating in a technically focused finance position
