NXTGEN is working with a central government body to appoint a Financial Accountant on an Interim contract. This is a hands-on financial accounting role requiring strong technical capability across month-end, year-end and audit, within a regulated public sector environment. This opportunity will suit a fully qualified accountant with prior central government or similar public sector experience, who is confident operating independently and engaging with senior stakeholders. The Financial Accountant will support statutory reporting and audit delivery, ensuring accurate and compliant financial statements. The role requires strong attention to detail, sound judgement and the ability to work effectively in a pressured, audit-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparation and support of statutory financial statements
- Supporting internal and external audit activity and responding to audit queries
- Delivery of accurate month-end and year-end financial processes
- Providing financial insight to support strategic decision-making
- Ensuring value for money through strong commercial awareness
- Building effective working relationships with senior stakeholders
- Using Excel to analyse, reconcile and present financial data
- Identifying issues and resolving problems independently
Essential Experience & Skills
- Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA)
- Minimum 3 years' post-qualification experience
- Prior experience preparing and/or auditing central government or comparable public sector financial statements
- Proven audit experience
- Strong Excel capability
- Confident communicator with credibility at senior level
- Ability to work under own initiative and deliver outcomes
- Pro-active, resilient and results-focused approach
This role is inside of IR35, and you must be able to commute to London a minimum of 2 times a week. Day rate offered is dependent on experience.
