NXT Recruitment is supporting a well-established construction business in West Cumbria to recruit either a Building Estimator or Estimating Manager. This is a key role within the organisation, offering the opportunity to work on a varied portfolio of construction projects while playing an important part in the continued growth of the business.
The position would suit an experienced estimator looking for their next step, or a senior professional capable of leading estimating activity within the team. For the right person with the right attitude, there is genuine scope for long-term progression within the company.
The Role
As Building Estimator / Estimating Manager, you will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates and supporting the tendering process across a range of construction projects. You will work closely with internal teams, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure competitive and commercially sound proposals are produced. This role is primarily office-based in Maryport, although hybrid working may be considered for the right individual once established in the role.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparing detailed cost estimates and tender submissions for construction projects
- Reviewing drawings, specifications and project documentation
- Liaising with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain competitive quotations
- Assessing project risks and identifying cost-saving opportunities
- Supporting the management of the tender process from enquiry through to submission
- Working closely with internal teams to ensure estimates are commercially viable
- Maintaining accurate records and documentation throughout the estimating process
About You
- Previous experience working in a construction estimating role
- Strong commercial awareness and understanding of construction processes
- Excellent attention to detail and numerical accuracy
- Confident communicator with the ability to liaise with suppliers, subcontractors and internal teams
- Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple tenders and deadlines
While a HNC in Construction would be advantageous, practical experience within the industry will be valued more highly than formal qualifications.
