NXT Recruitment is working on behalf of our client to recruit skilled Industrial Sewing Machinists to join their team in Carlisle. Whether you’re looking for full-time hours or something more flexible, this is a great opportunity to join an established team where your sewing skills and experience will be valued.

The role would suit a confident machinist who enjoys practical, hands-on work and takes pride in producing a high standard of finish. You’ll work across a variety of industrial machines and techniques, with flatbed, overlock, binding and piping all forming part of the role.

The Role

Working as part of the production team, you’ll be responsible for turning materials into finished products using a range of industrial sewing techniques. You’ll need to be comfortable switching between different machines and working to specifications, while maintaining a good pace without compromising on the finish.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operating industrial sewing machines safely and efficiently
  • Using flatbed and overlock machines
  • Carrying out binding and piping
  • Following patterns, measurements and production instructions
  • Producing accurate, consistent work to the required specification
  • Inspecting finished pieces and making adjustments where necessary
  • Working to production deadlines and agreed targets
  • Maintaining a tidy and organised workstation
  • Following workplace health and safety procedures
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues across the production team

About You

We’re looking for someone with a genuine background in industrial sewing who can hit the ground running. You’ll ideally have:

  • Previous experience as an Industrial Sewing Machinist / Sewing Machine Operator
  • Good experience using flatbed and overlock machines
  • Practical knowledge of binding and piping techniques
  • The ability to work accurately from instructions and specifications
  • A keen eye for detail and a pride in your finished work
  • Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
  • A reliable and flexible approach
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team
