NXT Recruitment are delighted to be recruiting for a Workshop Controller on behalf of a busy and well-established automotive business based in Carlisle. This is an excellent opportunity to join a fast-paced workshop environment in a key operational role, responsible for coordinating workflow, managing technician productivity, and ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the workshop. The successful candidate will act as the central point of communication between the workshop, service department, parts team, and customers.
This position would suit an experienced Workshop Controller, Senior Technician, or automotive professional with strong leadership skills and a proactive, organised approach. This is a full-time, permanent position working Monday to Friday, 8:15am to 5:30pm, with alternate Saturday mornings paid at time and a half.
Day-to-day responsibilities:
- Overseeing and supporting a team of Vehicle Technicians
- Planning and managing all incoming workshop jobs effectively
- Allocating work to technicians to maximise productivity and workshop efficiency
- Monitoring workshop utilisation to ensure full capacity is maintained
- Communicating with customers over the phone and face to face
- Working closely with service and parts departments to maintain smooth operations
- Ensuring deadlines and workshop targets are consistently achieved
- Identifying additional work requirements and upselling where appropriate
- Resolving workshop issues quickly and effectively
- Monitoring workflow and prioritising tasks to maintain high service standards

- Strong understanding of workshop operations and productivity management
- Technically minded, ideally with previous Vehicle Technician or Car Mechanic experience
