Overview
NXT Recruitment is working in partnership with a prestigious estate in the heart of the English Lake District to recruit an Assistant Gardener. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys working outdoors and has a passion for horticulture and maintaining beautiful outdoor spaces.
Working as part of a small and dedicated team, the successful candidate will assist with the maintenance and development of a variety of gardens across the estate and wider property portfolio. This role offers the opportunity to work within stunning surroundings while contributing to the ongoing care and enhancement of established gardens.
Key Responsibilities
Assist with the planting, watering, pruning, and maintenance of flowers, shrubs, trees, and other plants
Maintain garden beds through weeding, mulching, fertilising, and general upkeep
Carry out regular inspections to identify pests, diseases, or other issues affecting plant health
Operate and maintain gardening tools and equipment safely and effectively
Support the implementation of garden layouts, planting schemes, and landscaping projects
Work closely with the Head Gardener and wider team to deliver gardening and maintenance projects
Maintain high standards of cleanliness and organisation throughout garden and estate areas
Assist with seasonal gardening tasks and estate maintenance activities
Provide a professional and friendly approach when interacting with visitors, guests, and contractors
Support the ongoing development and presentation of the gardens throughout the year
Requirements
A genuine passion for gardening, horticulture, and working outdoors
Strong attention to detail and pride in maintaining high standards
Ability to undertake physical work in a variety of weather conditions
Good communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team
Reliable, hardworking, and willing to learn
Positive attitude with a flexible approach to duties
Ability to follow instructions and work independently when required
Desirable Skills
Previous experience within gardening, grounds maintenance, landscaping, or horticulture
Knowledge of plants, flowers, shrubs, and gardening techniques
Experience using gardening machinery and equipment
Relevant horticultural qualifications or training
