NXT Recruitment is supporting a well-established logistics operation in Carlisle (North) that is looking to strengthen its planning team with the addition of a Traffic Planner. This is a key operational role where you’ll be responsible for coordinating collections and deliveries, ensuring vehicles and drivers are used efficiently, compliantly, and in line with customer expectations. The Role
As Traffic Planner, you’ll take ownership of day-to-day transport planning, working closely with drivers, internal teams, and customers to ensure service levels are met while keeping operations running smoothly.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and allocate vehicles, drivers and trailers to maximise utilisation and control costs
- Ensure routes and schedules comply with Drivers’ Hours regulations and the Working Time Directive
- Communicate with internal teams and customers to maintain agreed service levels
- Manage changes to collections and deliveries, ensuring all parties are kept informed
- Support drivers daily, including debriefs, timesheet checks and tachograph downloads
- Maintain accurate paperwork, KPIs and compliance records
- Work closely with operational leads to improve efficiency and collaboration
- Respond to issues and re-plan where required to minimise disruption
About You
- Previous experience in transport, logistics or traffic planning
- Good understanding of drivers’ hours and transport compliance
- Confident using transport planning systems and Microsoft packages
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to prioritise under pressure
- Clear communicator with a professional, customer-focused approach
- Self-motivated and comfortable working independently and as part of a team
- Flexible approach to working hours when required
