Regional Manager – Supply Chain, Logistics & Transport in Denbigh

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key leadership role within the Supply Chain, Logistics and Transport function supporting NHS services across Wales. The postholder will ensure the efficient, effective and customer‑focused delivery of Supply Chain, Logistics and Health Courier Service operations, enabling frontline teams to provide safe, high‑quality care to patients. Working within the organisation’s ISO and Quality Management frameworks, the role will lead and support operational teams to maintain high standards of service performance, compliance and continuous improvement. It contributes to strategic development of the service, shaping future models of delivery that meet the evolving needs of NHS Wales. A key element involves supporting the Deputy Head of Supply Chain, Logistics and Transport with oversight and coordination of Supply Chain & Health Courier Services across Health Boards in North & Mid Wales, ensuring consistent processes, strong stakeholder engagement and effective operational management across multiple sites.

Main Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate activities across the Supply Chain, Logistics and Transport functions to ensure efficient and effective use of resources;
• Promote cohesive working across service areas, support integrated approaches to delivery and identify opportunities for improvement to enhance service performance;
• Manage project timelines and deliverables that contribute to the department’s business plan, ensuring agreed targets are achieved;
• Align local and regional business plans with the organisation’s annual delivery plan and Integrated Medium‑Term Plan (IMTP), ensuring consistency and strategic alignment across the region.

Person Specification

Qualifications – Essential Criteria

• Qualified to post‑graduate Diploma level or equivalent in Supply Chain, Logistics and Transport or demonstrable experience;
• Specialist knowledge of contract law, EU legislation, Transport Governance to support Procurement Services & HCS;
• Knowledge of NHS and government policies, and the political and economic climate within which healthcare is delivered;
• Qualified to Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply Professional stage or CMILT.

Qualifications – Desirable Criteria

• Qualified in project management, e.g. PRINCE2 or alternative methodology.

Aptitude and Abilities – Essential Criteria

• Excellent communication skills, written and oral, articulate and robust in presenting ideas;
• Strong influencing and negotiating skills, good builder of productive relationships;
• IT proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, databases and web research.

Aptitude and Abilities – Desirable Criteria

• Ability to speak Welsh;
• Familiar with integrated web‑based systems.

Experience – Essential Criteria

• Proven experience of handling complex operational management in a challenging environment, and within budget;
• Experience of project managing and ability to meet deadlines, including coordinating operational delivery plans, costings and purchases in line with agreed revenue and capital projects;
• Experience of people/staff management.

Experience – Desirable Criteria

• Demonstratable track record of obtaining savings and other business indicators.
