This post is for a permanent replacement for the current Deputy Medical Director. If this appeals to you then an exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Medical Director’s Leadership team.

The Deputy Medical Director will assist the Medical Director in providing professional leadership and support to the Medical and Dental workforce within NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership. They will play a fundamental role in providing expert clinical advice to the Single Lead Employer of each training programme. The Deputy Medical Director will also be pivotal in the delivery of a number of key programmes across NHS Wales.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Deliver key programmes across NHS Wales.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities:

In conjunction with the Medical Director and acting as a direct report, the Deputy Medical Director will be responsible for helping to deliver the Medical Directors office extensive portfolio. This will include but not limited to providing professional medical leadership across NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership (NWSSP) particularly in relation to the expert clinical advice relating to the medical and dental workforce employed under the Single Lead Employer; the Medical Examiner Service and the Primary Care Advisory team. The role will include guiding the Medical Directors office in strategic and operational decision making, deputising at Partnership Committee, sub-committee, Senior Leadership group and meetings with Welsh Government Officers.

The successful candidate will also help deliver key programmes of work that will have an impact not only within NWSSP but across NHS Wales, these will include the international recruitment programme for NHS Wales and the implementation of both Speaking up Safely and the Duty of Quality across NWSSP.

Person specification:

Qualifications:

  • Essential criteria: Medical qualification and Royal College membership, GMC Registration, Expert knowledge and understanding of legislation relating to medical practice.
  • Desirable criteria: Management qualification, Good knowledge and experience of the Primary Care sector in NHS Wales.

Experience:

  • Essential criteria: Senior professional with extensive experience of high level leadership and management, Experienced practising clinician with an in depth understanding of clinical standards and governance, Successful track record of delivering quality services in a large multi-disciplinary healthcare environment.

Skills and Attributes:

  • Essential criteria: Highest level of interpersonal, communication and leadership skills, Ability to analyse highly complex organisational problems and develop solutions, Ability to relate to a wide spectrum of NHS professionals with competing agendas.
  • Desirable criteria: Welsh Language Skills are desirable.
