Position: HGV Driver – Bank Position
Employer: NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership (NWSSP)
Location: South Wales (Cardiff, Bridgend, Newport). The service covers all Wales.
Type of Position: Bank – flexible hours, no guaranteed hours. This is not a permanent role.
Salary: Band 3 – adjusted as part of the NHS Agenda for Change pay award 2026/27, effective from 01 April 2026 (backdated to August 2026).
Responsibilities:
- Transport and deliver over 120,000 items of mail/medical notes per week to clinics, labs and health centres.
- Collect and transport in excess of 5 million movements of blood product and pathology samples per year.
- Operate within Accord Dangereux Routier and Good Manufacturing Practice legislation.
- Provide services between 08:00 and 18:00 Monday to Friday, with occasional 24‑hour support.
- Work safely and efficiently in a high‑volume courier environment.
Qualifications:
- Full driving licence, HGV Category C licence and CPC certificate.
- Experience driving vans or light commercial vehicles.
- Good communication skills with customers and NHS contacts.
- Basic understanding of Moving and Handling techniques, health and safety risks.
Desirable Criteria:
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently or with minimum supervision.
- Spoken Welsh is desirable.
Person Specification:
The postholder will access vulnerable people and will be subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act. Disclosure and Barring Service checks will be required.
