Audit and Assurance Services is a division of NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership (NWSSP) delivering professional internal audit, assurance and consulting services across the NHS in Wales. As part of a dynamic and evolving risk environment you will contribute to safeguarding quality patient services and the effectiveness of governance arrangements.

Main Duties

  • You will support the Deputy Head of Internal Audit to carry out high‑level, complex audit reviews, manage audit planning and delivery, prepare audit reports, and ensure quality standards are met.
  • You will build and maintain effective relationships with senior management and ensure audits add value and improve governance, risk management and control for the NHS organisations you support.

Qualifications and Knowledge

  • Relevant professional qualification (CCAB qualified accountant or MIIA qualified auditor) with post‑qualification experience or equivalent.
  • Evidence of appropriate continuing professional development.
  • Highly specialist knowledge of:
    • Global Internal Audit Standards
    • Risk Management and Assurance Frameworks
    • Corporate Governance
    • Controls Assurance
    • Control Frameworks
    • Stewardship & Probity
    • Healthcare Standards

Desirable Criteria (Qualifications)

  • Knowledge of healthcare.
  • Knowledge of NHS finance.

Experience

  • Extensive experience of internal audit, public sector audit and/or NHS experience.
  • Audit management experience, including management of junior staff.
  • Audit across a range of different clients.
  • Staff training experience.
  • Producing complex audit reports with recommendations for enhancements.
  • Advanced specialised knowledge and experience of internal audit and risk management.
  • Track record of dealing with complicated situations and delivering challenging objectives.
  • Ability to present complex and potentially sensitive information when management is resistant to findings.

Desirable Criteria (Experience)

  • High level of experience of auditing Healthcare Standards.
  • In‑depth specialist knowledge of NHS legislation and policies relating to finance and risk management.
  • Experience of attending and presenting reports at Audit Committees.

  • Welsh language skills (levels 1 to 5 in understanding, speaking, reading and writing).

  • Work sites: Bryn Y Neuadd Hospital in Llanfairfechan or Alder House in St Asaph.
