About The Role
Are you passionate about cyber security and ready to make a real impact in the world of Operational Technology? Northumbrian Water Group is seeking an OT (Operational Technology) Security Advisor to join our Information Services team. In this hybrid role, based between our Pity Me office and homeworking, you’ll play a key part in safeguarding our critical infrastructure.
You’ll report to the OT Security Lead to ensure compliance with the Network and Information Systems (NIS) regulations, manage our Cyber Assessment Framework (CAF) submissions, and drive continuous improvement in our cyber security posture. From coordinating OT security policies and procedures to engaging with third-party vendors and delivering security awareness training, your work will be vital in protecting the systems that keep our essential services running. This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of IT and OT, supporting both governance and technical assurance activities across a diverse and dynamic environment.
About You
We are looking for a cyber security professional with a solid foundation in IT and a keen interest—or hands-on experience—in Operational Technology (OT) environments such as SCADA and industrial control systems. You’ll understand the importance of protecting critical infrastructure and are confident navigating both technical and non-technical landscapes. You will bring proven experience in cyber security governance, risk management, and compliance and will be familiar with frameworks like NIST, ISO27001, Cyber Essentials, and ideally the NCSC Cyber Assessment Framework. You’re comfortable coordinating audits, producing meaningful metrics, and communicating risk in business terms and will take a proactive approach to identifying vulnerabilities and managing asset criticality under NIS regulations. Your communication and organisational skills are excellent, and you know how to influence and educate stakeholders at all levels. It’s a bonus if you hold Security Clearance, a degree in cyber security or computing, or have experience with anomaly detection, firewalls, and network infrastructure.
