We are currently exclusively and solely supporting a well-established business near Scarisbrick with the recruitment of a temporary ongoing Field Picking Operative with a view to an induction on week commencing 18th of May. This role suits individuals comfortable with outdoor labour and keen on contributing to quality produce harvesting and sorting in agricultural settings. The position requires physical fitness, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently as part of a team dedicated to sustainable farming practices. Experience or exposure to outdoor work and agricultural environments is preferred due to the physical nature and weather exposure of the role. We would also consider applicants from alternative backgrounds who have proven experience in physically demanding roles.
In person interviews can be held for this role in Scarisbrick, Ormskirk, Skelmersdale, Burscough or Southport. This role commences as a two-day trial initially, with a view of a 12-week temporary to permanent contract based on performance and attendance.
Benefits
- ÂŁ13.71 per hour (up to 39 hours).
- Overtime above 39 worked hours, at time and a half (ÂŁ20.57 per hour).
- Immediate starts available on 12-week temp-to-perm contracts.
- Full PPE provided (Steel toe cap Wellington boots, overalls, Elka heavy duty bib & brace, hats).
- Travel provided from site to individual working locations in company Land Rovers.
Working hours
- Monday to Friday, 07:30am - 4:00pm (arrival on site by 07:15 for transport).
- Paid morning break at 09:00 - 09:15.
- 30‑minute unpaid lunch break at 12:00.
- Paid afternoon break at 14:30 - 14:45.
Working environment
- Field‑based outdoors on the Southwest Lancashire plain.
- Team‑based, supporting farm operations and innovative growing methods.
- PPE provided on site to ensure safety in all working conditions.
- Physically demanding position, in a fast‑paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Operate and work alongside harvester machines while picking and cutting kale and other brassicas in the field.
- Cutting vegetables from plants on the farm and on field‑based operations.
- Grade and sort produce during harvesting to maintain product quality standards.
- Ensure all tasks are carried out efficiently in all weather conditions, from rain and cold to heat.
- Maintain clean and safe working practices with full PPE provided.
- Support general field work operations as required, which may include groundwork, packing, and other duties.
- Picking up trays on to low loader trailers (10 - 15kg trays, 2‑person lift).
- Working within the Packhouse when required to peel, weigh and pack produce ready for distribution.
Skills and experience
- Own transport desirable due to location of main site.
- Experience or strong preference for working outdoors in variable and sometimes challenging weather.
- Accuracy, speed and attention to detail.
- Ability to work as part of a fast‑paced small, dedicated team focused on sustainability and quality.
- Reliability, good physical health, and willingness to work long shifts when required.
