At our national distribution centre, we stock over 16,000 (29,000 including specials) veterinary products including pharmaceuticals, instruments, pet products and accessories. The Warehouse Operative role is at the heart of what we at NVS do. The role involves picking and preparing customer orders ready for next day despatch, in compliance with SOPs.

  • £12.90 per hour with an annual noon shift allowance of £600 pro rata

On our warehouse noon and night shifts there are various activities, including picking, checking and replenishment. General tasks include:

  • Picking a broad range of veterinary products including controlled drugs, items which must be kept between 2 and 8 degrees, bulk items, hazardous and cytotoxic products and other specialist items, using a paper‑based pick note;
  • Some work at height (accessed via ladders/kick‑steps), and below the knee;
  • Replenishing stock where necessary;
  • Checking orders and inputting batching information onto the computer system to allow despatched stock trackability;
  • Ensuring items are packed in such a way as to limit the risk of damages to products;
  • Compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs);
  • Moving orders ready for despatch;

General responsibilities

  • Required to take a flexible approach, supporting other teams as necessary;
  • Maintain good distribution practices, including a ‘clean as you go’ approach;
  • Focused on H&S;
  • Basic IT work;
  • Regular manual handling of products, up to 16kg (up to 25kg in Bulk area);
  • Operating LLOP, pump trucks, electric pump truck and HLOP;
  • A busy and physically demanding role;
  • A diverse and inclusive culture;
  • Required to work in fridges as necessary.

Operatives are required to perform any other reasonable duties as the business requires.

Personal attributes

  • Some experience of working in a warehouse environment would be advantageous but is not essential;
  • GCSE grades D‑G or equivalent is desirable;
  • A good level of attention to detail;
  • The ability to work accurately under pressure;
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills;
  • The ability to work with others;
  • Effective communication;
  • Act in a professional manner;
  • Hard‑working, self‑motivated and customer focused;
