We are looking for an experienced and proactive Bookkeeper to join our growing Rotherham team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who genuinely enjoys bookkeeping and VAT work and is looking to build a long-term career within a modern and forward-thinking accountancy practice.
The role offers exposure to a varied client portfolio and will involve supporting bookkeeping, VAT returns, digitalisation projects, and assisting with accounts preparation where required.
About the Role
You will work closely with a wide range of clients, helping maintain accurate financial records while supporting the wider accounting team in delivering a high-quality service.
- Bookkeeping for a varied portfolio of clients
- Preparation and submission of VAT returns
- Supporting clients with digital adoption and cloud accounting systems
- Helping transition clients away from manual record keeping
- Assisting with accounts preparation when required
- Managing bank reconciliations and maintaining accurate ledgers
- Liaising directly with clients and resolving bookkeeping queries
- Supporting the rollout and championing of Xero within the Rotherham office
- Ensuring compliance with relevant accounting regulations and deadlines
What We’re Looking For
We are seeking someone with previous accountancy practice experience who is confident managing work across multiple clients and enjoys bookkeeping as a long-term specialism.
Essential requirements:
- Previous experience working within an accountancy practice
- Strong bookkeeping and VAT experience
- AAT qualified or qualified by experience (QBE)
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple client deadlines simultaneously
- Confident using cloud accounting software, particularly Xero
- A proactive approach to digitalisation and process improvement
- Strong communication and client relationship skills
This role would not suit candidates whose experience is solely within industry finance environments or highly specialised purchase ledger/sales ledger positions.
Working Arrangements & Flexibility
Full-time hours worked across a 4-day week (34 hours). 1 day working from home permitted following probation, provided you are confident working independently. Flexibility is available, although current office arrangements require slightly more structured hours to ensure sufficient office cover. Additional flexibility is expected once the two Rotherham offices combine.
