Purpose of the job

This role is the ‘commercial and contractual guardian’ of a project or projects.

The incumbent will closely administer and manage all commercial aspects of the contract with all stakeholders of a project, client and external subcontractors.

They provide contractual and commercial advice to the Project Management team and often operate as the Project Manager’s right-hand person.

Reports to

Day to Day would report into the Commercial Manager but would work alongside the Project Manager.

Key Accountabilities

To lead commercial and contract management across multiple work packages, driving commercial performance, managing risk, and supporting delivery of project strategy within a joint venture environment:

  • Lead delivery of commercial management across multiple work packages.
  • Oversee, review, draft and approve Applications for Payment (AFP) submissions.
  • Manage and present cost reporting (CVR / forecasting / AFPs) to senior stakeholders.
  • Lead change management, commercial negotiations, and contract administration.
  • Manage subcontractor accounts through to final account.
  • Identify, manage, and mitigate commercial risks and opportunities.
  • Lead on presentation of commercial positions, including reporting and forecasts.
  • Manage, mentor, and support junior commercial staff.
  • Provide commercial guidance and oversight across the wider team.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, and delivery teams.

  • Can initiate and approve expenditure within project budget.
  • Occupational Skills And Knowledge
  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or a commercial related subject (candidates with significant appropriate experience may be considered)
  • Working towards Chartership or has attained chartership.
  • Degree in Quantity Surveying or related discipline.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience in a Senior QS or similar role.
  • Experience across major infrastructure / complex projects.
  • Good knowledge of NEC contracts and prior experience administering contracts.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple work packages / workstreams.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with project teams, clients, and the supply chains.
  • Ability to work well under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
  • PC literate in the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Full Driving Licence.

Desirable

  • Member of, or working towards membership of an appropriate professional institution.
  • Experience in nuclear or regulated environments.
  • Proficient in the use of the CEMAR Contract Management System.
  • Experience managing teams.
