Mechanical Stress Engineer

  • Location: Abingdon or Warrington
  • Hybrid and agile working options

As a Mechanical Engineer specialising in Engineering (stress) Analysis you will be an active team member in a supportive and fast-paced work environment, contributing to the achievement of real business objectives and assigned to live projects. These are amongst the largest and most exciting projects taking place within the nuclear industry.

NUVIA’s consultancy department focuses on providing technical services to the Nuclear Industry (office-based) rather than manufacturing. Engineering Analysis involves mostly Finite Element (FE) modeling and Hand Calculations, which are a key part of the design process and vital for achieving regulatory acceptance for our clients. You will interface with other engineering disciplines, e.g. CAD design specialists, project managers and safety and package transport specialists.

Development:

As a Mechanical Stress Engineer in the Analysis Team, you will gain the experience required to grow in responsibility for delivering and planning engineering tasks of increasing size.

We have an IMechE accredited scheme leading to Chartership. Dependent on your experience so far, you will be encouraged to pursue this with the support of a qualified mentor. You will build experience and design techniques and appreciate the whole life-cycle of engineering consultancy projects. As well as receiving first-class training and support in design and stress analysis techniques such as ANSYS, LS-DYNA & CAD, you’ll work alongside and learn from some of the most respected and highly qualified professionals in their field. Your training will be structured to provide you with the skills and experience to apply for membership of the IMechE and become a professional accredited engineer.

Please note that due to the security restrictions around the project, this work has been deemed as UK eyes only.

Skills & Qualifications:

To be considered for the Mechanical Stress Engineer you should have:

  • Technical abilities are essential, so you will need a minimum of a 2:1 Masters or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Strength in Degree modules such as mechanics of structures, dynamics and materials would be most relevant, preferably including an introduction to FE Analysis as well as CAD.
  • We look for those with a passion for engineering and problem solving, who also show an aptitude for understanding the theory of mechanics and structures, extreme loading, stress and failure.
  • Previous experience in Stress Analysis involving the use of hand calculations or FE modelling to demonstrate the acceptability of loads would be beneficial, dependent on experience.
  • Just as important are your behaviours; we are looking out for candidates with great communication skills, who are proactive, focused, and with a willingness to learn.

Employee Staff Benefits:

  • 8.5% Employer Pension Contribution with Life Assurance Cover
  • Private Medical Scheme*
  • Employee Share Scheme
  • Flexible and hybrid working, in agreement with local line management
  • 25 Days Annual Leave (increasing to 28 days after 5 years’ service, 31 days after 10 years’ service)
  • Option to buy, sell and carry over up to 5 days annual leave per year
