We are seeking an experienced Civil Engineer to join a multi‑disciplinary engineering team operating within an Approval Authority environment. The role supports both current operations and future programmes, contributing to the delivery and assurance of critical infrastructure within a highly regulated environment.
You will work alongside Mechanical, Structural, Electrical, Building Services and Piping Engineers, collectively responsible for the development, assessment and maintenance of Engineering Design Substantiation. This work ensures that design intent, critical safety factors, and safety and operational requirements are satisfied in accordance with current legislation, regulation and recognised good practice.
Key Accountabilities- Author, develop, assess, maintain and manage engineering design substantiation documentation
- Produce and manage design change and concession documentation
- Present design substantiation to formal nuclear safety governance and assurance committees
- Develop and maintain Examination, Inspection, Maintenance & Testing (EIMT) schedules and associated procedures
- Produce and assess Periodic Review of Safety (PRS) reports
- Provide technical advice and direction to internal and external stakeholders
- Produce scopes of work for Independent Technical Assessments and Independent Peer Reviews
- Apply general and specialist civil/structural engineering knowledge, including emerging technologies
- Undertake design, assessment and through‑life support of assets within a nuclear/high‑risk environment
- Produce robust technical justifications for civil/structural design modifications
- Review external contractor submissions, safety cases and technical reports
- Check and peer‑review calculations and technical documentation produced by colleagues
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in the design and assessment of reinforced concrete and steel structures subject to dynamic loading (e.g. seismic, blast, wind, snow and environmental loads)
- Experience working with reinforced concrete structures
- Proven ability to produce robust technical justifications for design modifications in a high‑hazard industry
- Experience applying theoretical and practical engineering methods throughout the full asset lifecycle
- Ability to combine general and specialist engineering knowledge in complex environments
- Strong knowledge of British Standards, Eurocodes, and relevant structural design codes
