The Senior Engineer is fundamentally a hands-on analysis and design-based role within the Civil Structural department, typically on steel and reinforced concrete structures. You would be expected to be capable to lead on day-to-day developments of the design through the design process, working autonomously and as part of a wider multidisciplinary project team. As the Senior Engineer, you will also have a shared managerial responsibility in respect of supporting and developing Graduates, Apprentices and/or Designers in the team. Reporting to Principal Engineer.
Key Accountabilities for a Senior Structural Engineer:
- Preparation of design documentation throughout the design process, such as: Basis of Design reports, technical specifications, risk assessments, method statements, technical files and other documentation required by safety legislation and procedures.
- Preparation and review of optioneering studies.
- Development of designs to satisfy technical specifications.
- Prepare supporting design calculations to substantiate design.
- Contribution to design reviews.
- Preparation of technical specifications.
- Preparation of risk assessments, technical files and other technical documentation required by safety legislation and procedures.
Essential Qualifications:
- Strong understanding of the fundamentals of structural engineering discipline, including safety legislation and statutory regulations.
- Design experience in Reinforced Concrete and Structural Steel and a good understanding of design in other construction materials.
- Experience and ability in the analysis of structural frames and members using proprietary software packages (e.g. STAAD, Autodesk ROBOT).
- Demonstrable competence gained in a design delivery position.
- Ability to work to tight deadlines without compromising on safety and quality.
- A strong team player, with good organisational and interpersonal skills.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Nuclear experience or experience from within a highly regulated industry.
- A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel with overnight stays occasionally.
- Experience of supervision.
- Bridge Design experience to Eurocode standards.
Occupational Skills and Knowledge:
- A recognised Engineering Certificate such as HNC/HND/Degree with circa 10+ years’ work experience in structural design consultancy.
