The primary function of this position is to lead the global engineering activities for modeling and simulation development in support of new product development, legacy products, and test equipment. This role also has responsibility for the system engineering development or tools and processes related to model based engineering (MBE) and model based systems engineering (MBSE).

The primary responsibilities of the role include:

  • Organizational capability development, global Aerospace alignment, improved program execution using disciplined engineering processes, risk management and portfolio/resource planning using leading indicators & metrics.
  • Implementation of organizational performance measures, development of best cost country (BCC) engineering capabilities, refinement and implementation of technology strategy for specific business units, and advancement of engineering capabilities to support the development of next generation products and systems.
  • Leading a global team of approximately 50 highly professional & technical engineering staff to provide detailed analysis support for performance modeling, FEA, thermal, CFD, and other related analysis in support of the new product development, iR&D, and product support teams across MSD.
  • Development of tools and processes and providing mentoring and guidance to the engineering organization on program execution through the use of MBE and MBSE.
  • Organizing and building talent base within the engineering organization, creating opportunities for growth and development of the engineering team.
  • Assuring that efforts to improve the efficiency of the Engineering functions are emphasized through creative organizational management, effective use of engineering tools, appropriate training and continuous improvement.
  • Driving consistency and best practices across the organization with respect to product documentation, design standards, and related material specifications.
  • Assuring that product designs are competitive on a global basis with respect to quality, reliability and cost.
  • Working with Aerospace Group level & corporate level Centers of Excellences for a seamless product development, execution process and organizational capability development.
  • Using best practices of robust design (Design for Six Sigma, DFSS) & promoting the “analysis first” mindset.
  • Establishing digital processes and experience within the engineering team aligned to the Aerospace Group strategy, examples include MBD and MBSE.
  • Assuring that proprietary rights and product liability concerns of Aerospace Group are addressed by interacting with corporate legal staff members.
  • Establishing a global engineering strategy and implementing tactical measures to ensure implementation is realized.
  • Identifying key engineering metrics, monitoring performance and implementing improvements accordingly.
  • Maintaining close liaison with the Operational Excellence organization to ensure high quality and year over year manufacturing cost reductions.
  • Establishing and maintaining contacts with Universities to develop advanced products and potential new hires.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution is required.
  • 10 years of experience within aerospace or a high-tech industry with new product development and sustaining support.
  • Advanced engineering degree or MBA preferred.
  • 15 years of experience within the aerospace industry including experience in one or more specialized analysis disciplines (FEA, CFD, Thermal, Performance).
  • 8 years of experience leading or managing people (direct or indirect).

Skills:

  • Experience in conducting competitive analyses and defining/executing business level strategy.
  • Familiarity with Aerospace industry processes and standards is preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, experience with design processes, portfolio and program management skills, knowledge of customer strategies, successful new product introduction experience, creative/innovative thinking.
  • Proven track record of driving change and ability to develop and execute technology development plans.
  • Experience in MBSE tools, processes and program execution.
  • DFSS Greenbelt Certification.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Work in a matrix organization within a global virtual engineering organization.
  • Develop productive working relationships with functions and organizations outside of Engineering.
  • Up to 40% travel may be required.
