Eaton Wimborne is located in Wimborne, Dorset, and is part of Eaton's Aerospace division, a global leader in aerospace fuel systems. Our facility specialises in cutting-edge air-to-air refuelling systems, advanced refuelling probes, and a range of Defensive Aids Sub-Systems.

The Senior Electro-Mechanical Design Engineer will work within the Design Engineering team at Eaton Wimborne. The team is responsible for the development of mechanical and electro-mechanical designs and production of drawings across all product lines. Design Engineers are allocated to projects as required, offering the opportunity to work on a wide variety of products.

The role encompasses all aspects of the product lifecycle from support to bids, development of system requirements, concept design through to issue of production standard drawings. The Senior Electro-Mechanical Design Engineer will also provide support to production concessions and in-service issues where applicable.

The candidate will require experience in:

  • Electro-mechanical assembly enclosure design
  • Loom/wiring harness design
  • Generation of PCB Assembly drawings

The candidate should be fully capable of using 3D CAD to model sub-systems, equipment, and looms/wiring harnesses while working within large, complex models. Experience with EWIS requirements to ensure compliance while routing the looms/wiring harnesses is essential, along with previous experience in consideration of EMC and knowledge of IPC manufacturing standards.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Producing concept designs for new products or modifications to meet customer requirements
  • Completing stress, performance, and tolerancing calculations in support of designs
  • Using Design for Six Sigma tools and Design for Manufacture tools to optimise designs
  • Presenting design solutions to peers and customers
  • Supporting supply chain by interpreting and responding to suppliers' technical inquiries
  • Providing status updates and participating in design/project team meetings
  • Ensuring compliance of design to specification requirements
  • Managing outsource activities and resource management
  • Technical management and/or mentoring of junior design engineers
  • Process and procedure development in support of continual improvement philosophy

Qualifications:

  • Good engineering degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 5 years in an Engineering Design & Development organisation, ideally within Aerospace

Skills:

  • Demonstrated technical skills leading a design aspect of a project
  • Good technical and analytical knowledge base
  • Experience in a relevant professional engineering environment
  • Experience writing Statements of Work for subcontract services
  • Experience in New Product Introduction of aerospace products
  • Experience with CAD packages such as CREO, Catia, or Solidworks
  • Experience working with Geometrical Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Experience with Loom/Wiring Harness design
  • Experience with Printed Circuit Board (PCB) enclosure design
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • Strong organisational skills
