NuStaff are recruiting on behalf of a client operating a specialist vehicle fleet, seeking a skilled Vehicle Technician to join their busy workshop team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work on a diverse and demanding fleet — including cars, vans, trailers, and pedal cycles — while developing your career within a supportive, safety-focused environment.

The Role

As a Vehicle Technician, you'll carry out servicing, maintenance, and mechanical repairs across a varied fleet, working to a standard that exceeds DVSA MOT and manufacturer minimums. You'll use diagnostic equipment to identify and resolve faults efficiently, keep accurate records of all work completed, and help maintain a safe, well-organised workshop.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Completing mechanical repairs and modifications to agreed timescales and quality standards
  • Diagnosing faults using diagnostic equipment and exploring cost-effective solutions
  • Carrying out visual inspections and road tests to confirm vehicles are returned to service safely
  • Maintaining workshop equipment and reporting any wear, damage, or hazards to management
  • Keeping up to date with the latest developments in vehicle technology and repair techniques
  • Communicating clearly and professionally with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels
  • Maintaining accurate service and repair records
  • Travelling occasionally for training, meetings, or breakdown support

What You'll Need

Essential:

  • A relevant qualification (BTEC, City & Guilds Level 3, or NVQ Level 3) in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Principles — or equivalent relevant experience, or currently working towards this
  • Level 2 qualification (or above) in English and Maths, or equivalent
  • A full UK manual driving licence
  • Some knowledge of motor vehicle maintenance and prior experience in a fleet workshop environment
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • A flexible, self-motivated approach with good attention to detail
  • Basic computer literacy

Desirable (for more experienced candidates):

  • A time-served technician background with a completed apprenticeship
  • Experience with auto-electrical repairs and diesel/petrol engine diagnostics
  • Competency in operating workshop equipment safely under PUWER and LOLER regulations
  • A broad range of manufacturer training courses and certifications

Candidates at an earlier stage of their career who are willing to undertake an apprenticeship or formal training pathway are also encouraged to apply

Hours : 37 hours a week, Monday to Friday

Pay:

  • Scale 4 starts at £14.09 PAYE
  • Scale 5 (if they were qualified) starts at £15.71 PAYE
  • Scale 6 is for those who are experienced in the additional elements of Police Specific maintenance starts £17.40 PAYE
