Nustaff are currently recruiting a Freedom of Information Officer for a police Information Management team. You will support the Freedom of Information Manager in making sure two Forces comply with the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and the Environmental Information Regulations 2004.
You will handle requests from start to finish, decide what can be disclosed and explain those decisions clearly to the public. You will also act as a point of contact for both Forces.
Key responsibilities
- Process Freedom of Information and Environmental Information Regulations requests in line with legislation and policy
- Gather information from Force systems and other sources, in electronic or hard copy form, to inform disclosure decisions
- Decide case by case whether information can be released, weighing the evidence, legal constraints and permissions
- Draft detailed letters explaining each decision and its justification, so members of the public understand why information has been withheld
- Keep a full and auditable record of every request, the decision-making rationale and the outcome
- Deliver training and development sessions on the Freedom of Information Act
- Provide customer service and advice on the Act and Regulations to colleagues and the public
- Help maintain the Force Publication Scheme
- Keep up to date with developments in information disclosure legislation
Essential Criteria :
- A formal qualification in FOI, or a willingness to work towards one
- Knowledge of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and the Environmental Information Regulations 2004
- Proven ability to draft well-structured letters and reports explaining a decision
- Proven customer care skills
- Proven research skills and good decision-making ability
- Ability to manage a challenging workload on your own initiative
- Proven ability to interrogate, input to and manipulate databases
- Proven skills in MS Office, especially Word
Please note
- The role requires MV/SC vetting clearance.
- Training will be provided on force systems and case management software.
- Pay: £14.10 per hour (PAYE) or £18.55 per hour (Umbrella)
- Hours: 37 per week, Monday to Friday, 8am-4pm or 9am-5pm
- Working pattern: Hybrid working available
- Start date: November 2026
