Company Mission
Nusku is leading the energy transition with a revolutionary new heating system that enables a seamless shift away from gas boilers to a more affordable and greener solution. Our mission is not only to reduce the carbon emissions from the UK's 29 million homes, which currently account for 20% of the UK's CO2 footprint, but also to reshape how people think about home heating. We are driven by innovation and long-term sustainability, developing products that are efficient, reliable, and accessible. By bringing breakthrough technology into everyday homes, we aim to improve comfort for our customers, lower energy costs, and accelerate the UK's journey to net zero.
Who you are
We are looking for a software engineer who is motivated by purpose and inspired by impact. You thrive on solving complex problems and enjoy collaborating across disciplines to deliver software that integrates seamlessly with hardware. Creative, analytical, and curious, you want to see your work have a tangible effect on the way people heat their homes.
What the job involves
As Senior Software Engineer, you will play a key role in developing and delivering Nusku's software platform. Responsibilities include:
- Designing and developing core software components for web, mobile, and embedded systems.
- Defining software architecture and contributing to technical roadmaps.
- Writing and reviewing clean, maintainable, and scalable code.
- Implementing automated test frameworks to ensure quality and reliability.
- Building fast prototypes to validate ideas and concepts.
- Supporting system integration to ensure smooth operation between software and hardware.
How we work
We are a committed team, driven to improve the heat pump experience for our customers and reduce the carbon emissions of home heating. We expect you to share these values and contribute to this mission. This is a predominantly site-based role in Bristol, working closely with the development team. There is scope for some home working when appropriate, balancing lifestyle needs with product development schedules.
What we're looking for
We are looking for someone with strong software development experience and an eagerness to grow in a fast-paced environment. The following skills and experiences will help you succeed:
Must-haves:
- Strong proficiency in modern software development (e.g., PHP/Laravel, JavaScript/Vue.js, or equivalent).
- Solid understanding of RESTful API design and integration.
- Experience designing and maintaining scalable, modular, and production-ready codebases.
- Proficiency with relational databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL).
- Familiarity with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and modern DevOps practices.
Nice-to-haves:
- Working knowledge of Golang, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, or other additional technologies.
- Experience with time-series databases.
- Exposure to event-driven architectures.
- Interest in energy systems and IoT devices.

- Flexible working arrangements to balance work and life.
- Opportunities for professional development and career progression as we grow.
- 25 days of holiday each year, plus your birthday off as an extra treat.
- Comprehensive group insurance cover, including life insurance, income protection, and critical illness insurance (subject to standard eligibility criteria).
- Access to a virtual GP service and an employee assistance program for health and wellbeing support.
- A contributory company pension scheme (subject to scheme rules).
- A cycle-to-work scheme to support your health and sustainability goals.
