The Opportunity
We're looking for a detail-oriented and motivated Payroll Assistant to join our Finance team and play a vital role in ensuring our 600+ colleagues are paid accurately and on time, every month. This is more than just processing numbers – you'll be supporting the people who keep our business running, resolving queries with care, and contributing to continuous improvements in our payroll processes. It's a role where accuracy meets empathy, and where your work directly impacts employee satisfaction.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Processing monthly payroll for 600+ employees across multiple locations
  • Managing new starters, leavers, and pay variations with precision
  • Responding to employee payroll queries with professionalism and empathy
  • Ensuring full compliance with HMRC regulations and UK payroll legislation
  • Processing statutory payments, timesheets, and variable pay elements
  • Supporting year-end procedures and statutory reporting
  • Contributing to process improvements and system efficiency
  • Working collaboratively with HR and Finance teams
  • In-house payroll training to operations

What We're Looking For

Essential:
  • 3-5 years in-house payroll processing experience
  • GCSE Grade C/4 or above in English and Maths
  • Strong understanding of UK payroll legislation, PAYE, and NI
  • Excellent numerical accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to meet strict monthly deadlines whilst maintaining quality
  • Confidence with payroll software and MS Excel
  • Outstanding communication skills and professional telephone manner
  • Discretion when handling confidential information
Desirable:
  • CIPP qualification or other reputable payroll qualification (or working towards it)
  • Experience with large payrolls (500+ employees)
  • Background in facilities management or service sector
  • Knowledge of pension auto-enrolment
  • T&A rollout, engagement and compliance experience
