We are currently recruiting for a compassionate and experienced Family Support Worker to support families, children, young people, and vulnerable individuals in the Weston-super-Mare area. This role focuses on providing practical, emotional, and person-centred support to help families overcome challenges, improve wellbeing, build resilience, and promote independence. You will work closely with individuals experiencing social, emotional, behavioural, or practical difficulties, helping them access appropriate services and achieve positive outcomes.

This is an excellent opportunity for candidates with backgrounds in support work, supported living, residential care, youth work, family intervention, or community support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide practical and emotional support to families, children, and young people
  • Support service users in developing independence, life skills, routines, and confidence
  • Build positive professional relationships based on trust, empathy, and respect
  • Work with families facing social, emotional, behavioural, or practical challenges
  • Support with accessing education, healthcare appointments, housing support, benefits advice, and community resources
  • Encourage positive parenting approaches and healthy family relationships where appropriate
  • Support individuals with emotional wellbeing and behavioural needs
  • Conduct or contribute to risk assessments, support plans, and progress reviews
  • Maintain accurate case notes, reports, and safeguarding documentation
  • Identify safeguarding concerns and follow appropriate procedures
  • Liaise with social workers, healthcare professionals, schools, and external agencies
  • Promote inclusion, resilience, and positive outcomes for service users
RequirementsEssential
  • Previous experience as a Support Worker, Family Support Worker, Youth Worker, Residential Support Worker, Key Worker, or similar
  • Experience supporting children, young people, adults, or families in a care or support environment
  • Good understanding of safeguarding children and vulnerable adults
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Compassionate, patient, and resilient approach
  • Ability to manage challenging situations professionally
  • Experience with care planning, risk assessments, and record keeping
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
Desirable
  • NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care, Children & Young People, Social Care, or equivalent
  • Experience in family intervention, youth support, supported living, or community outreach
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practice
  • Experience supporting individuals with mental health needs, autism, learning disabilities, or behavioural challenges
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
