Are you an experienced Sports turf professional with a passion for maintaining pristine Grounds and Gardens? Do you excel in leading teams, creating maintenance schedules, and ensuring the highest standards of Grounds presentation? Gavin Jones is recruiting for St Johns School, a beautiful independent school in Leatherhead Surrey, seeking a dedicated and proactive Head Grounds person to join the existing team.
About the Role:
As the Head Grounds person you will lead a team of five, in carrying out all aspects of Grounds and horticultural maintenance. Your role will involve creating and implementing maintenance schedules, ensuring the Grounds and Gardens are to the highest, and overseeing all daily operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage a team of groundsman in all aspects of Grounds management and horticultural maintenance.
- Implement and maintain a comprehensive grounds maintenance plan, including, mowing, line marking, verti-cutting, aeration practices, fertilization, pest control, end-of-season renovation and irrigation strategies.
- Develop and implement comprehensive maintenance schedules.
- Oversee the application of pesticides and herbicides.
- Ensure all machinery and equipment are maintained and operated safely.
- Monitor and manage the health and presentation of the turf for Cricket, Rugby, football etc.
- Maintain a thorough knowledge of and ensure compliance with all relevant National and Local current legislation, ie. Health and safety, first aid, COSHH, environmental management and employment to ensure compliance.
- Prepare the annual budget requests for repairs, maintenance and grounds preparation.
- Coordinate the negotiation, purchase, storage and control of all consumable materials and services in a cost-effective manner.
Requirements:
- Level 2 or 3 Diploma/NVQ in Sports Turf or Amenity Horticulture
- Possession of PA1, PA2, and PA6 certificates.
- Chainsaw certification not essential.
- First Aid and H&S training
- Excellent knowledge of turf management and maintenance practices.
- Ability to create and follow detailed maintenance schedules.
- Full clean Driving License
