Education Concerns Officer

Full-Time On-site
Nursing and Midwifery Council

Education Concerns Officer

Our vision is for safe and effective nursing and midwifery practice across the four countries of the UK – regulated and supported by the NMC – a fit for the future organisation, with fairness and equity at the heart of everything we do.

Our role is to protect the public and maintain confidence in the nursing and midwifery professions. As the largest independent regulator in Europe of more than 860,000 nursing and midwifery professionals, we have a crucial role in making this a reality.

We do this by setting and promoting high education and professional standards for all future and registered nurses and midwives in the UK and nursing associates in England.

We also ensure every nurse, midwife and nursing associate on our Register meets clear standards of conduct and practice which protects the public and the reputation of our professions.

We have a duty to investigate concerns and to take steps to protect the public in the relatively rare instances where we need to limit or restrict a nurse, midwife or nursing associate’s right to practise.

We are building a new NMC with integrity, fairness, respect, equity and effectiveness at its core.

We are determined to improve and modernise our culture and ways of working. This will ensure that the public and professionals feel confident in our work.

About the Team

The Education Concerns Team plays a critical role in protecting the quality and integrity of nursing, midwifery and nursing associate education across the UK. Working as part of the wider Education function, the team investigates concerns, risks and issues that may impact the quality of educational provision, student experience or public protection.

The team works closely with approved education institutions (AEIs), internal stakeholders and regulatory colleagues to assess risk, gather intelligence and ensure concerns are managed fairly, proportionately and effectively. While the Education Quality Assurance team focuses on helping providers get things right from the outset, the Education Concerns Team focuses on situations where risks, concerns or emerging issues require investigation and regulatory oversight.

As the team continues to evolve and strengthen its approach to education oversight, this is an exciting opportunity to join a developing function that plays a direct role in supporting public protection and maintaining confidence in nursing, midwifery and nursing associate education.

Your Role and Impact

As an Education Concerns Officer, you'll investigate concerns relating to nursing, midwifery and nursing associate education programmes, helping to ensure that risks to students, educational quality and public protection are identified, assessed and managed appropriately.

You’ll gather and evaluate evidence, assess risk, engage with education providers and ork collaboratively with colleagues to determine appropriate actions and recommendations. This role requires curiosity, sound judgement and the ability to navigate complex information and challenging situations with professionalism and confidence.

  • Build effective relationships with universities, education providers and internal stakeholders.
  • Facilitate discussions and meetings with stakeholders, including senior representatives from education institutions.
  • Identify emerging themes, risks and trends that may require further regulatory consideration.
  • Support continuous improvement by contributing to the development of processes, guidance and ways of working.

This is a role where your work will directly contribute to maintaining high standards in healthcare education and protecting future patients through effective regulatory oversight.
