We have an exciting opportunity for nurses or midwives to work in our Manchester and Bolton centres. This role includes hybrid working providing telephone and face-to-face consultations within our Remote Services team, working up to 38 hours per week - full time or part time available (9.5 hours per day 8am - 6pm and late shift 10am - 8pm). There will also be an expectation for the successful candidate to work some weekends.
We are looking for nurses/midwives who can deliver safe and effective care of patients wanting to access consultation for unplanned pregnancy, surgical and medical abortions, contraception and sexual health services for women. You will need to be able to fulfil an integral role within our multidisciplinary team delivering a confidential abortion service. You will need to be motivated, enthusiastic, caring and empathetic. Pro-choice is a must.
Main duties of the job:
- To deliver safe and effective care of patients from admission to discharge in accordance with Healthcare Commission Standards, NMC Guidelines for Professional Practice and company policies and procedures.
- Ensure the patients are aware of their options.
- Undertaking consultations including the discussion and confirmation of treatment options.
- Discuss contraceptive options and provide/fit contraception in accordance with guidelines NUPAS policies.
- Appropriately consenting patients for treatment/procedures.
- Provide and inform patients on STI Screening.
- Identify safeguarding concerns.
- Checking details on patient notes and alerting Doctor/surgeon/anaesthetist to any significant conditions.
- Ensuring patients are informed about aftercare prior to discharge.
- Providing confidential telephone advice for patients with post-operative problems following discharge.
- Completion of contemporaneous patient records, consent and registers.

Job responsibilities:
- NUPAS provide abortion care from Telephone consultations, through to after care support.
- Following appropriate training the postholder will be required to provide care in remote services.
- The post holder will be expected to support clinical care as required operationally across all areas of the service.
- However, the post holder must be appropriately trained and competent in the care administered.
Responsibilities:
- To provide clear understanding, and implementation of informed choice to patients.
- To offer excellent skills in patient assessment with a clear understanding of treatment options, and informed choice.
- Skilled in clinical observation and assessment, enabling identification of normal baseline observations and the deteriorating patient.
- Can interpret and undertake point of care testing including pregnancy testing either face to face or via the telephone.
- Have the knowledge base to facilitate discussion around contraceptive options.
- To ensure safe administration of medication in line with policy.
- To gain informed consent before the implementation of treatment and procedures.
- Provide a good knowledge base around STI Screening and risk factor assessment.
- To undertake record keeping in line with policy.
- To possess the skills and knowledge to monitor observations, make the necessary safe assessments and implement care based on the patient's condition.
- To assess, monitor and advise our patients at every stage of care to ensure high quality safe care.
- Can engage with patients and promote patient feedback to ensure NUPAS can improve services for our patients.

Patient Care and clinical practice:
- All patient care must be undertaken in line with NUPAS policies and procedures, and the post holder is responsible for familiarising and understanding.
- All registered professionals have a responsibility to ensure patients are safeguarded and concerns are escalated and managed appropriately.
- Support the services across the region to ensure the delivery of a high standard of patient care and safety, reporting concerns to the Deputy Regional Clinical/Clinical Lead/Lead/Regional Manager.
- Support the implementation of care for patients in accordance with appropriate care pathways.
- Deliver safe and effective abortion, contraceptive, and sexual health advice and care either in the clinical setting or within remote services.
- The post holder is expected to provide care to patients via telephone consultations and clinical assessments.
- Always recognise and uphold the patient right to dignity and respect.
- Ensure the full and accurate completion of all documentation.
- Engage with and act upon patient feedback to learn and develop the services provided at NUPAS.
- Ensure the provision of specialist holistic care supplying contraception and medicines in line with company policies.
- Maintain an up-to-date knowledge base to implement and support care delivery in a specialist area of care, and only undertake clinical skills you are trained in.
- Provide any necessary assessment for sexually transmitted infections and advise patients.
- To undertake safe and effective medications management in line with policy.
Professional Development:
- Engage in the delivery of training and education.
- Support in providing induction, training and support to new staff and ensure that their development needs are appropriately met in line with NUPAS competency assessment training frameworks.
- To manage own workload in line with NUPAS visions and Values.
- To engage in own clinical and safeguarding supervision ensuring clinical knowledge is up to date.
- Ensure that practice is compliant with professional bodies, regulatory standards.
- Report concerns via the correct NUPAS processes.
- To escalate and voice concerns and complaints to the relevant manager.

Person Specification:
Experience:
- Identify and elevate any safeguarding concerns to senior colleagues and actively seek to reduce or eliminate those concerns identified in a positive manner.
- To embrace safeguarding mechanisms and support staff, patients and supporters at times when safeguarding principles need to be applied.
Qualifications:
- Current Nurse and or Midwifery Council NMC registration as a Registered Nurse Sub part 1 of the NMC register Registered Midwife.
- Must be pro-choice.

- Professional Nurse or Midwifery advocate.
- Up to date knowledge and experience of working in a sexual health TOP or Gynaecological service.
