We are currently recruiting for a Planning Officer to join our Development Control team. This is an exciting opportunity to join an authority with the ambition and plans to make real progress and build a better borough.

You will have the opportunity to manage your own diverse caseload whilst collaborating with a range of consultees and stakeholders. This will include processing all types of planning applications (including registration/validation, consultation, site visits, negotiations, and report writing), negotiating Section 106 agreements, presentation of items to Planning Applications Committee, and dealing with Planning Appeals.

We are a small, ambitious, and friendly team and we will provide a supportive environment with plenty of development and training opportunities. Together we are responsible for managing the use and development of land and buildings across a largely urban area surrounded by countryside and Green Belt. A central part of this is ensuring that developments are of a high standard and accord with local and national planning policies.

In order to achieve this, the ideal candidate should have excellent communication skills, knowledge of planning legislation, and the ability to analyse and resolve complex information. We are looking for someone who is positive and enthusiastic, able to manage their own time successfully and has previous Development Control experience. You should also hold membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute, or a qualification and experience which would enable membership within 12 months of appointment to post. A full driving licence and access to a vehicle or other appropriate means of travel are essential requirements for the post.

In return, we provide a comprehensive benefits package, including:

  • Flexible working
  • Hybrid working from home and the office
  • Learning and development opportunities
  • Local Government Pension Scheme
  • Generous holiday allowance
  • Childcare vouchers
  • Independent support for your health and wellbeing

For an informal discussion or further information about the role, please email Rebekah Hill, Principal Planning Officer at rebekah.hill@nuneatonandbedworth.gov.uk.

This post is covered by the Fluency Duty, as outlined in the Code of Practice on the English language requirements for public sector workers.

Please note that all applications must be received on an online application form. We do not accept CVs and do not keep CVs on file unless part of an application. Any communication with you will be via email, so please check your email, including spam/junk folders, and WMJobs account on a regular basis after submitting your application.
