This is a rare builder-manager role at a well-known international food and drink retailer going through a major data and systems modernisation. They're replatforming onto a modern Azure-native integration stack, retiring a legacy Mulesoft estate, and connecting enterprise SaaS systems across four global markets and they need someone who can lead the team and personally build the hardest integrations themselves. If your last hands‑on Azure build was three years ago, this isn't the one. If you still write difficult Function Apps and know how to grow a team, read on.
What you'll be doing
- Own the integration architecture for all SaaS source systems (Workday, Oracle Symphony, NetSuite, ecommerce platforms and more) all new build is on Azure
- Personally design and build the most complex, highest-risk integrations on the Azure stack (APIM, Logic Apps, Function Apps, Service Bus, Event Grid) — this is not delegated work
- Line‑manage a team of 3-4 integration engineers: hiring, performance, one-to‑ones, and engineering culture
- Own the controlled wind‑down of the legacy Mulesoft estate — keep it stable while migrating flows to Azure on programme timeline
- Define and enforce integration patterns, API design standards, error handling, security and observability across the team
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, test frameworks and observability dashboards in Application Insights and Log Analytics
- Act as senior technical escalation point for major integration incidents, including out-of-hours when required
What we're looking for
- 8+ years in integration and API engineering, with a recent track record of personally building production integrations on Azure (you should have committed Azure integration code in the last 12 months)
- Hands-on experience across the Azure integration stack: APIM, Logic Apps, Function Apps (C# or Node.js), Service Bus, Event Grid, Key Vault, Managed Identity, Application Insights
- Experience line-managing or technically leading a small team of engineers, including hiring and developing junior talent
- Strong API design skills (REST, JSON, OpenAPI) and event‑driven patterns implemented on Azure
- Working knowledge of Mulesoft Anypoint sufficient to safely operate and migrate flows off a legacy estate
- Demonstrable experience building integrations with enterprise SaaS systems — Workday, Oracle Symphony, NetSuite, Salesforce or similar
- Right to work in the UK without sponsorship
Bonus points if you have
- Microsoft Azure certifications (Solutions Architect Expert or Developer Associate)
- Experience migrating an integration estate off a legacy platform (Mulesoft, BizTalk, Boomi or similar) onto a cloud‑native stack
- Background in retail, hospitality or omnichannel
What's on offer
- Competitive base salary plus bonus
- Private medical, pension, life assurance and employee perks
- Hybrid working from Manchester, 3 days per week in office
