About Numan
Founded in 2018, we’ve already grown to be a 300+ team distributed across the globe, united by a singular mission: empowering people to take control of their health.
Numan is transforming health: we’ve built a cutting‑edge platform that integrates diagnostics, medication, supplements, digital programmes, and doctor consultations.
Giving people the tools they need to maximise life.
The Role
This is a leadership role built on strong, hands‑on engineering, not a step away from the work.
You will co‑lead one of our product engineering teams alongside a Product and Design partner.
You’ll be entirely accountable for the team's technical direction, health, and execution, while actively line‑managing and growing your engineers.
If you want to build a psychologically safe, fast‑moving environment where good engineers do their best work, this role offers genuine ownership.
You'll be
- Set the technical direction and design quality within your team, making the local trade‑offs between scope, speed, and quality.
- Ensure your team's systems are highly reliable, observable, and operationally ready.
- Own the software development lifecycle, keeping the team inside our engineering guardrails or explicitly logging exceptions.
- Partner with your Engineering Lead and the Director of Technical Strategy to keep your team's technical decisions aligned with Numan’s broader vision.
- Lead a team that owns problems from initial shaping right through to measuring the live result.
- Ensure every engineer can explain why their work matters to the customer and exactly which metric it aims to move.
- Use feature flags, incremental rollouts, and rapid rollbacks to test signals before committing to heavy technical investments.
- Partner with Product and Design to co‑author OKRs, manage a short 2‑4 week portfolio of bets, and decide the order of implementation.
- Hire, line‑manage, and mentor your engineers. You will own their performance, personal growth, and career development.
- Own the health, efficiency, and psychological safety of the team, ensuring an honest environment where people thrive.
You'll need
- You’re a Senior Engineer who has owned the technical direction and design quality for a team.
- Direct experience line‑managing, hiring, and growing engineering talent.
- A track record of co‑leading alongside product and design partners in an environment that prioritises metrics over tickets.
- Real experience shipping, operating, and maintaining production software with a high bar for reliability.
- Experience working with leading indicators, feature flags, and incremental rollouts to validate direction before heavy building.
- A high bar for design quality balanced with sound trade‑off judgement (scope vs. speed vs. quality).
- You care deeply about the user problem and the commercial/customer outcome it drives.
- The ability to stand as a true peer to your Product partners, comfortably challenging product framing to better shape the problem.
- A strong preference for small, iterative delivery and fast feedback loops.
It's a bonus if you have
- Experience scaling engineering teams or architectures during a high‑growth phase.
- A familiarity with building secure, compliant systems (though not strictly required).
- Mentorship outside of work, open‑source contributions, or active involvement in the wider engineering community.

- Share options
- 25 days holiday, plus bank holidays (increasing to 30 the longer you stay with Numan)

How to prepare for a job interview at Numan
✨Brush Up on Your Coding Skills
For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.
✨Know Your Tools and Frameworks
Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If Numan uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.
✨Showcase Your Projects
Bring along a portfolio that highlights our best work. This could be code samples, GitHub repositories, or any side projects we’ve built. Make sure we can talk through our thought process for each project, especially the challenges we faced and how we solved them—this shows our problem-solving skills in action.
✨Prepare for Behavioural Questions
While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
