The Role:

We are seeking a Head of Data Engineering to join our high-functioning Data & Analytics team (comprising Data Engineers, Analytical Business Partners, and Data Scientists). In this high-impact leadership role, you will take end-to-end accountability, from data ingestion to metric reporting, to deliver business-critical insights across the organisation. Managing two Data Engineers, you will sit at the heartbeat of Numan, balancing hands-on technical contribution with strategic thought leadership. You will serve as the go-to expert for data warehouse design, data modelling best practices, and tool selection. If you are a highly communicative leader who wants to stay close to key decision-making, mentor talent, and drive commercial success, this role is for you.

You'll be:

  • Owning and refining the long-term Data Engineering Strategy, aligning it with company objectives and modern technology advances.
  • Producing and communicating ambitious quarterly roadmaps, lead the Data QBR process, and establish clear OKRs for yourself and your team.
  • Partnering with Lead Engineers, Data Team Heads, regulatory professionals, and external partners (vendors, Google) to ensure alignment and compliance for stakeholders and patients.
  • Developing our agentic analytics framework to enable reliable, self-service analytics at scale.
  • Collaborating with the Infrastructure team to uphold robust engineering standards and operational workflows.
  • Managing orchestration processes for data engineering effectively.
  • Integrating and launching new data sources as Numan expands its offering and market footprint.
  • Managing relationships with key vendors to maximize value and utility across our toolset.
  • Continuously evaluating emerging technologies and providing recommendations on new tooling.
  • Ensuring ETL and live reporting processes reliably deliver accurate, timely downstream KPIs.
  • Establishing process monitoring systems so the team is 'first to know' when issues arise.
  • Implementing metric alerting to track metric shifts, data staleness, and overall data integrity.
  • Acting as the company-wide consumption champion, promoting data literacy so every employee can leverage data effectively.
  • Building a culture of learning through discoverable documentation, training, helpdesk support, newsletters, and 'lunch and learns.'
  • Managing data access controls and security privileges across the entire tech stack.

You'll have:

  • Advanced SQL skills at both a production-grade and analytical level within a commercial environment.
  • Proven experience extracting, transforming, and loading data across disparate environments.
  • Hands-on experience developing data views within major BI tools (e.g., Looker, PowerBI, Tableau, MicroStrategy).
  • Experience leading or managing high-functioning technical talent, with a passion for helping team members reach their potential.
  • Deep knowledge of Data Engineering best practices and modern consumption-layer design.
  • Pragmatic, curious, self-driven, and commercially minded with a track record of delivering measurable impact.

It's a bonus if you have:

  • Python skills
  • Worked with dbt previously
  • LookML skills
  • Knowledge of Software development best practices
  • Worked in a digital healthcare environment
