As a Senior Biomedical Scientist at our Leeds Hospital, you’ll bring the relevant qualifications and laboratory experience in multidisciplinary biomedical science. You have a good working knowledge of different analytical equipment in a range of techniques. You’re also a natural communicator and team player, and you share our idea of quality.
As a Senior Biomedical Scientist, you will:
- Deliver high-quality Histopathology service.
- Perform preventative maintenance of laboratory instruments before use.
- Perform manual and automated laboratory investigations safely, efficiently, and meeting agreed timelines.
- Maintain reagent management procedures effectively.
- Perform tissue and specimen dissection activities within scope of practice.
- Monitor and assess the accuracy of laboratory investigations using appropriate quality control procedures in place.
- Oversee the calibration and maintenance of laboratory instruments and performance issues to Laboratory Management.
- Escalate potential service delivery risks and failures to Laboratory Management and Clinical Lead.
- Participate in pre-analytical and post-analytical specimen and result processing and management.
- Work with senior staff to implement corrective actions where issues arise.
- Manage urgent and time-sensitive samples and assess the suitability of specimens for analysis.
- Help ensure we deliver the very best experience for patients.
Essential Requirements
- IBMS Specialist Portfolio in Cellular Pathology or equivalent.
- Previous recent experience working in a UKAS accredited Histopathology laboratory.
- Proven experience in specimen dissection and biopsy preparation.
- Experience of quality management systems and audit processes.
- Experience in service improvement and development initiatives.
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
