We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly skilled Lead DevOps/Automation Engineer . The ideal candidate will have previous experience in leading a team of DevOps Engineers and demonstrate technical expertise in working with cloud Infrastructure and services, implementing CI/CD pipelines, and the effective operation and reliability of business-critical production systems using monitoring and alerting tools.
This role also provides the opportunity to shape our Cloud and Automation standards, from platforms and services through to tooling and processes, you’ll be able to define what good looks like and work with cross-functional teams to make it happen, developing their capability along the way.
To be successful I this role, you should demonstrate that you have:
The ambition for creating and nurturing a culture of DevOps across a Technology organisation; working with existing infrastructure and Software Engineering teams to define new practices and evolve ways of working.
Experience with the various forms of Cloud infrastructure, hosting and services e.g. IaaS, PaaS, Serverless computing and all-in-one cloud-based solutions. (We’re currently hosting some of our applications on Azure and Heroku but are not against exploring other options that improve our delivery and efficiency)
Experience working with infrastructure-as-code, configuration, and automation tools such Terraform and Ansible to provision and manage Cloud infrastructure and automate software delivery processes. Experience with Cloud platform equivalents would be an advantage.
Previously designed, implemented, and maintained CI/CD pipelines that automate the building, testing, and releasing of software; using tools such as Jenkins, Sonarqube, Azure DevOps, Github actions, or similar.
Working knowledge of containerisation and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes, ideally running on Azure (AKS).
Experience integrating and configuring various logging, monitoring, and alerting tools (e.g. Splunk, New Relic) that provide operational insight into the health of live applications and systems.
Experience in applying a range of cloud security tools and techniques (e.g. threat modelling, vulnerability scanning, dependency checking, reducing attack surface area), ideally incorporating these tools and techniques into automated pipelines.
The desire to upskill and enable product engineering squads to operate and maintain the infrastructure, services and CI/CD pipelines that power their applications and systems.
Extensive experience in the administration of Linux Operating Systems within large corporate environments.
Previously led teams of multi-skilled DevOps/Automation Engineers and mentored individuals at various levels from Associate through to Senior.
Worked within product engineering teams and in close collaboration with other roles including Product Owners, Architects, Designers, QA and Delivery.

Grow a DevOps/Automation function across our Engineering organisation, building on existing capabilities and standardising our approach, going forward.
Define and evolve our technology-wide Cloud and Automation strategy, ensuring that engineering squads adopt and maintain best practices going forward.
Working closely with cross-functional product teams to design and implement appropriate cloud native solutions, codifying the infrastructure, configuration and CI/CD pipelines to automate processes and improve efficiency.
Work across a wide variety of interesting and challenging systems covering different aspects of fitness, wellbeing, and health care.
